Today in Devon we were celebrating our own 'Pride of Torquay' hero...
"Torquay war hero Paul Baines has been awarded his Military Cross at Buckingham Palace.
The 35-year-old from Shiphay was given the award for the gallantry he showed by risking his life to save others in Afghanistan.
Colour Sergeant Baines has been recognised for 'selfless gallantry'.
He was blown 10 feet in the air by a roadside bomb but continued to help his injured comrades in a Taliban ambush last November.
He came under attack from enemy machine guns but continued to assist a casualty and carried him to a waiting helicopter where he declined evacuation and returned to provide further cover for his patrol.
His citation reads: "This astonishing act of selfless gallantry in the face of horrifying tragedy was remarkable.
"Baines showed raw strength of character and deep reserves of courage."
Made me cry today watching him on TV collecting his Military Cross.....

Have to agree with whats been said already.
Makes ones own problems small in comparrison but also how quickly we forget them when dealing with lifes trials.
Thats the saddest bit
