Not wishing to upset any Muslims on here but perhaps we should all contact the media to get this change implemented.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-33345674

contact your MP and ask him to put pressure on the media to make this change!

it doesn't matter what they're called, they're a group of terrorists. That's what needs to be dealt with, not what their sodding name is!

The point is that calling them IS or ISIS or ISIL gives them recognition. Calling them daesh is an insult and denies the existence of the so called caliphate.

What is the significance of daesh?

Why do the media need to change it? If that is what the group.has called themselves how can the media change it?

being a political junkie... i did notice in one of the debates more and more people calling them daesh (daesh is what they are calling in the musilim world) and the governing calling the ISIL...

both terms take away supposed "statehood" from the group... and in a way takes seperate the religion aspected of billions of peaceful people from the nutters who proport to act in its name...

Islamic State, Islamic Caliphate and Islamic terrorism are expressions that inappropriately attach a religious context to people who are nothing more than thugs and who do not deserve association with any religion.

Daesh scum is a far better description and a more suitable one for people whose purport to kill in the name of a God.

I guess this is an occassion when you can get away with being racist.

"Not wishing to upset any Muslims on here"

Not all Muslims are terrorists or terrorist sympathisers. As someone pointed out who was in Tunisia " the hotel staff guarded the doors to protect people inside from the gunmen. The doctors and people who helped were also all muslim. Does no one ask where these terrorist groups come from. Of 28 nations on the uk list of countrys involved in human rights abuses and countrys of concern we sell arms to 25 of them. Its so easy to spout out populist propaganda that you have plaguerised from the media, get others to agree with you and not have to put any effort into thinking about the issue yourself

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

The Americans were referring to them as Deash/dash at least a year ago. Has it made a difference.

I find it more interesting that as we now discuss bombing Syria again people are referring to the Sykes Picot borders and the fact that what was within them would always be ungovernable.

The group referred to as IS is as far from the majority of Muslims as Wolf is from all other white people in Charleston.

To be honest what the rest of the globe of all cultures, religions etc refers to them as is probably a bit low on their agenda..

keeping themselves in the media spotlight is part of their aim..

When one's enemy's enemies also are your enemies, one wonders if it isn't time to take a step back and reconsider one's foreign policy...

Using the name Islamic State gives the terrorist what they are asking for, i.e. to be recognised as Islamic and that they control a State.

By agreeing with the Islamic countries that oppose them and calling them Daesh or the plural form Dawaish – it means bigots who impose their views on others.

In other words it removes the very essence of what they clamour for.

That is where you are wrong it matters a lot to them that is why last September in Mosul they

“threatened to cut the tongue of anyone who publicly used the acronym Daesh … saying it shows defiance and disrespect”.

It's not going to make any difference to how they behave, either way. It's what they call themselves.

If you think IS(IL) should not be used because of it's mention of Islam and it's claims to statehood, then by that logic, the terms British National Party, English Defence League and Britain First should not be used. They do not represent me, or indeed the majority of the English, yet by association as I am English, I feel they sully the perception of my nationhood.

However, I understand that the term Daesh is used as an insult by those who despise them and that IS(IL) hate it's use.

On that basis alone, I think it's a good idea, and I will certainly be using it from now on.

"........

The vast majority of the moderate Muslim world object in the strongest possible terms to any association that these terrorist thugs are making with Islam.

Considering that the answer to this problem lies in that part of the world and not in the west, we would best serve those who can do something about the problem by not associating their religion with the terrorists.

The terrorist thugs have no association with Islam, they are deluded and brutal murderers, acting on a twisted version of a religious doctrine that only a minority of true followers subscribe to. It is this majority who can resolve the problem but by we associating the things with their religion is just not going to help.
