Good morning folks just after a bit of help and advice please
Went camping for 3 nights and on tuesday morning one of the dogs in our group got into difficulty and went under so i jumped in and rescued it, only thing is my iphone was in my pocket
Its mostly working now apart from when light levels are low then the screen wont light up until i put a light on or move somewhere lighter, there is also a red tab by the battery im guessing this has been activated by the water? |

Did you put it in s bag of rive to dry it out?
That red tab is there to tell anyone fixing it that it has come in contact with water I'm afraid so if your insurance etc doesn't cover water damage you can't break it to get round that. |

General advice for this is that you dry off the component parts as best you can and bury it in a bag of dry rice in order for residual water to be absorbed. Leave it for a week and dont connect it to the power supply |

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds) |
Not sure about the screen problems fella, but the red bit I'd say you're right , let's the repair centre know it's been water damaged and invalidates your warranty. |

Unlikely it will return to normal, unless its fully dried out almost immediately ( opened up and dried and put in rice to soak any residual moisture )
The water will corrode the solder and create nano cracks which will stop it working properly, probably time for a new handset unfortunately |

You can buy the water damage indicators online, just peel off the old one and replace with the new one....just incse your insurance don't cover for water damage |

Good thinking!
Also, as well as dry rice, if you have any of the those silicone pouches that you get with new electrical products, it's worth using those too. They should absorb any moisture.
If you know anyone who'd be able to take it apart, they could potentially prevent any further internal damage. Corrosion is the killer. Normally it's better if the batter isn't present, I think.
I'm not an electrical specialist in any sense. |

I'd still be wary of damage that could yet happen - hence proposing having it completely dried, away from it having battery contact. Do you have any of those silicone gel dessicant sachets? If not, maybe a request at an electrical retailer would have them giving you a few of their spares from packaging. |

The red light is there to let apple know that the phone had been in contact with water. It's a design to stop people claiming the phone just stopped working for any other reason and claiming on their warranty or insurance. Best thing to do is DO NOT TURN YOUR PHONE OFF!! put it in a sealed back of rice and then into an airing cupboard for 48 hours. If this doesn't work then you need to buy a new phone |
