I have an iPhone and love it... But before I decided to upgrade I spend hours comparing phones on the tech radar website. Their re_iews are detailed and yet I understood (not the too techy bits lol). Look at your list of available upgrades and then research them.

Best of luck

I've had the Samsung s6 for a few months now and is quite possibly the best phone I've owned. The battery on early Samsung models had been notoriously naff. As is the iPhone. But the s6 has a rather long battery life. And with the impressive 10 min fast charge even if you do drain it. It doesn't take long to charge back up. It's also incredibly fast with a suped up processor and multi tasking functionality.

I don't know what all you guys having been doing lol

I have had a Samsung S3 / S4 and now S5

Battery life has never been a problem with normal usage I charge my phone once every 2 to 3 days.

You guys need to look at your settings and turn off the stuff you don't use.

To my understanding Location and Wifi are big consumers of battery life if you are not using them turn them off

I love the Windows phones. I have a Nokia Lumia which is incredible. Easy to use, fantastic spec, removable battery - unlike many phones today, so I could replace it, if it deteriorated. I think they're all branded Microsoft now, not Nokia.

Photos are awesome. In a few weeks they all get a free upgrade to Windows 10.

You also get free Microsoft Office.

There are tons of good sim only deals, so possibly well worth getting a 12 month sim only contract, and buying your phone for less than £100 - you can save a lot this way and still have a 2 year warranty.

I depends whether you want to go Android, Windows or IOS. After that, it's down to hardware specs, memory, screen size etc etc

I have both Android (Sony Xperia) and IOS (apple 5s). IOS is better in some ways but woefully lacking in others, Android is a bit better, with more free apps, but I still hate it. Both compromise basic telephony for whizzy graphics, you need to get apps to do the useful stuff your old non smart phone did as standard.

I'll try Windows next time and see if I can get on with it any better.

An example of one of the many things I hate about smart phones in general - I used to be able to press the button on either of my cheap bluetooth hands free kits and it would automatically put my Motorola Razr into voice mode fort hands free calling.

Now, I have to download an app, swipe the screen to wake the phone up, tap the app icon, tap the "Speak Now" button, look at the screen and choose the correct contact option. This negates the whole purpose - I have to pull over to make a call, which makes the voice recognition app redundant.

I used to be able to text one handed by feeling the buttons on the keypad, or when standing up holding a pint (IOS still hasn't even got a T9 keypad - you have to get an app!).

So whilst I get the whole mobile interweb concept (I use a netbook for mobile interweb) I hate smartphones in general

You can prolong battery life by going to Settings - Mail - and switching Fetch to Manually.

Not playing games helps too

I suggest if there's nothing inherently wrong with your phone, keep it and go for a sim only deal. Tesco does one for £7.50 a month.

The upgrades these providers do are how they make their money from their customers. Why upgrade, if there's nothing wrong with your phone?

Unfortunately, my Galaxy S3 battery is overheating, so either it's a compatible battery or get a new phone, but I rather keep paying £7.50 a month.

"I love the Windows phones. I have a Nokia Lumia"

Reading a rumour mill article that windows may drop windows mobile from its range and move to android on all devices

Incorporate windows apps into the android OS and roll it out as update across the Lumia etc range

It is rumour mill and Microsoft have refused to comment so take with a pinch of salt until the 29th when 10 is fully released,

Sounds extremely unlikely they would give up their own os and go with google (cos google and ms have been such good friends so far) but worth being aware off, or completely not, haha

My Sony Xperia z3 compact is smaller than the iPhone but same size screen, battery lasts two days easy (there is even a basic phone mode which means battery will last a week but only as a normal phone not a smartphone), is waterproof and has noise canceling headphones, is cute colorful and stylish (mine is green but it comes in orange/red, black and white) and easily fits in tight jeans pockets. It's a really good looking sexy phone with a premium feel to it.

It runs android, and has expandable memory so you can add a memory card. 20megapixel camera which can even film under water. It's screen and computer are just as good as any of the flagship phones so its fast too.

My only suggestion with it is that to be waterproof it has ports on the side which you need to open to attach your charger. The problem with this is that it is annoying and you might damage the port doors. BUT you can actually use a magnetic charger which you can buy from any phone shop or amazon so you don't have to open and close the ports. This is basically like a flat magnet which clips into the side of the phone (there is a flat surface on the left of phone). It 'sticks' by magnetic force and charges the phone. It's actually a lot easier than sticking a normal charging cable in. You can connect the other end of the wire to any charger as the other end of the wire is just a normal USB. I bought this with the phone and I actually only opened the ports on the first day to insert my 64GB memory card and my nano sim card. I haven't opened them since and have filmed in the pool and shower without fear.

I really recommend it. It's also less than half the price of an iPhone.

Alternatively the z1 compact (there is no z2) is also pretty good and about £100 cheaper.

When and if I upgrade it will be for another HTC.

As I say this phone is about 28months old... Its been dropped a few times but it is still bloody good. and yet till this phone I used to swap my phones every 6 months or so x

Also just to mention I also have a Nokia Lumia 930. I live it and its camera is incredible as is the style and build. Windows phone as an operating system is the easiest to use and most pretty for me out of the Android and ios (apple) systems BUT it DOES still have a problem with apps. All the basic apps you need are there and work perfectly (phone, camera, internet, satnav, messaging, WhatsApp, Spotify, facebook, email, calendar, cortana etc) but other apps like grindr, snap chat, games, pinterest, and specialist apps e.g banking apps with the exception of Natwest Lloyds and barclays etc are either non existent or are older versions. For example there is an easyjet app but it's not even close to the android version. This is what led me to buy the Sony. I prefer windows phone to android but after owning three Lumia phones I had enough and bought the Sony phone. Having said that I prefer the Windows phone versions of all the other apps as they are better designed.

Also just to clarify its Windows 10 which will be coming out next month, not windows 10 mobile. Windows 10 mobile edition will be available in September or October. Both however are free upgrades and I think windows 10 will truly be the system to beat. Literally the only problem with Windows phone is the lack of apps. I'm surprised Microsoft doesn't just take a billion out of its savings and develop the top 200 apps on iPhone by itself and then they would be unstoppable.

Over the past 2 years I have had an iPhone5s, which I got rid of as the battery was pretty poor and I wanted to move away from Apple in general. I swapped force Nokia running Windows which is a horrid system to use so bulky and slow. I'm now using a Sony Xperia z3 and I have to say I'm very impressed. The battery will last 48 hours with an above average use. I've never seen a smart phone do that before with my level of use

I've just got myself the Samsung galaxy a5 (would have loved the s6 but can't afford the extra £15per month) bit I'm loving it

The sd and sim card slots are a bit strange with their pushpin eject (think back to old Mac disk drives! )

But I love the style and feel of it. Straight upgrade to lollipop and great battery life.

I managed to stream both Wimbledon semis yesterday and still only took about 50% if the battery
