you can't even guestimate these things as it will be dependent on detail, colour, artist...etc.....a reputable company will have a it down session with you, go through designs, work on that design and be able to give you a quote based on that.

Very true..a friend of mine has spent over 1500quid on his 2 sleeves but they are very intricate designs..a japanese influenced one and a thai one with bhudda n things like that on it,a tribal one will cost a few hundred but again that depends on the detail..obviously if the tattooist does them in hour sessions it can depend on how long it will take him/her to do and i suppose that has bearing on the eventual cost...im gonna get a japanese one myself sooner or later but im designing it myself..bit of luck i can sell them my designs for a discount haha

depends who you go to and how much they charge a sitting the place i go its £110 per sitting and its four hours a sitting thats from an award winning artist, but look about like you would picking a tattoo if they have a website have a look at there work and if there is any comments about the shop and the arists working there who will be doing your tattoo.

The best advice is to find a local tattooist who is recommend by people you know or friends of friends at worst. Look at some of his work, check out his premises. Then spend some time on the design you want. In reality your going to have the ink work for the rest of your life so cost should be one of the smaller considerations if your going to have it done.

Depending on the artist, complexity of design, is there new design required or will they stencil from an existing. Are they covering up an existing tattoo?Portraiture may be more due to detail required.

ballpark.. for a great artist... £1250 plus per sleeve.

Sleeves take a long time to complete, your budget will may dictate how many hours per sitting, you are looking at about 10 days - 2 weeks to heal in between sittings.

Tattooist can be found on many street corners these days so research the tatooist, good tattooists usually charge by the hour ranging from about £50-£80 per hour

You're a student and look like a reasonable kind of bloke - I would advise you agaist it for many and varied reasons - think about future prospects and careers, the type of girl you want to attract, how it will look in later life - trust me such a massive tattoo could have an enourmous impact upon your life - cost is immaterial. I have one full sleeve (totally bespoke) at the moment in progress so around 23 hours of work at £350 per session and reckon on 2 more sessions to get it finished.

Yeah each session has been around the 8hr mark but gotta admit the pain starts hitting home after 4 or 5 for sure. Got another full day in a few weeks but might start having half day sessions after that

Would much prefer a 4hr session but my artist is usually booked up 6 months in advance so the whole day has to be done or it would never get finished.

Perhaps not on a whim, but most people don't think about the concequences of todays actions in 10 or 20 years time!

Find someone who had a colourful tattoo 20 years ago and take a look, colours leech into each other and gradually they turn black. A friend of ours had a beautiful Celtic design in the small of her back. It was crisp and clear... Now 7 years later, it is starting to look "Blurred" and because of the fine design, she has been told it will look like a backy/blue blob in ten years.

And to spend over £2000 having both arms done... Defies belief!

But each to their own.

i have a colourful tattoo 7years old this 17th of november and to be honest its like a few months old, maybe your mate went to a crap artist who puts the ink in to deep or not deep enough and the type of ink used aswell can make or break a good tattoo

I don't get it.

If you're going to spend this much on a sleeve tattoo why put it on a perfectly good shirt?

Get it on you skin and it will keep longer.

Just collect a few ideas and take them with you - any good artist should be able to incorporate it and give you an interpretation of what they think you are looking for. Don't be afraid to change it with them as you are the one who will have it for life

Possibly, possibly not…its down to the reason people want them…I know a few guys who have had, half sleeves, maori tribal marking etc done, when I asked them why they have shrugged their shoulders and said ‘dunno really’…

To have it done because its fashionable at the moment is madness IMHO because tomorrow, next week next year…they might not be. David Beckham and other high profile faces really instigated a lot of this…now people are copying them…its called ‘fashion’…

I asked one lad, are you a Maori warrior then?...he said…’whats that?!!!!...so he has had it done, and doesn’t even know why OR what it is..

They use the excuse, because I want to look different…different to who?...all their other mates who have the same????

As for a line of stars below the earole…what the fuck is that all about?

Still each to their own…I just get the impression that a lot of people don’t think it through enough first.

On average you are talking between 1 or 2 grand for 1 full sleeve......obviously depends on the artist, the design the detail....whether it is a stencil or hand sketched design etc etc
