Does today mark the end of spotify?
Jump to: Newest in thread
With iOS 8.4, out today, comes Apple Music.
Do you think Spotify will remain the #1 streaming service, or will Apple do what apple do best and throw everything they have at it.
Don't forget Google has a music streaming service, but that really hasn't killed Spotify. |

Seeing add Google/ Android has a global share of more than 80% of the market I don't think this will affect them too much, apart from the closed o/s of Apple inc. |

No, not necessarily.
How many of the paying Spotify subscribers have an Apple device and are willing to swap over?
Was reading the other day how Apple at the end of the free trial period expect to have to 100m paying subscribers.(at $10 a month).
If my arithmetic is correct, and trade figures given for 2014 global revenue accurate, then that represents some 50% of global spend on music. Can't see it happening to that scale.
Besides arent the big three record companies the majority shareholders of Spotify, and taking 70% of the revenue? Can't see them giving that up so easily either.
One loser ( at least in subscription numbers) could be that one set up by Kanye West, Madonna, Alicia Keys etc.
The way Spotify is changing though could be the bigger threat to itself. |

I am a tad if a luddite when it come to steaming music.
I just listen to radio six music. The music they play is pretty eclectic , its not from.the charts. Though I am not stuffy about chart music too, each to their own.
I get a kick buying new cds and I like physically owning a cd. I used to pay for down loads but it just didn't feel the same.

Yeah, Jay-Z's Tidal may have a rough year.
Although, Tidal does have some nice exclusives.
Jay-Z had a cracking b-sides concert last month.
Which I watched on youtube. |

"No: Spotify is platform-agnostic.
According to their website, PC will get it when you update itunes and Android this autumn."
So you aren't going to need an Apple/iTunes account and will allow mp3/wma music in from your existing library?
First time I've *ever* seen/heard that Apple will be remotely open to non-apple products.
In that case, maybe. |

Same here. So far so good mind. Although I have noticed a few quirks that I hope they iron out.

A full Apple account, with all the required information and payment details and associated terms and conditions is nothing like signing up for a Spotify account with email address. |

Spotify takes the same details as Apple. Name, address, card details...
I'd wager the terms and conditions are pretty similar too. |

just one other tip for anyone who is trying apple music with the new update...
the auto-renewal is actually set to on... which mean that i think a lot of people are going to end up with a nasty shock come sept 30th when they are all charged 10 quid a month whether people like it or not...
so here is how to turn it off...
1. The Apple Music app, head to your profile. It’s the little red silhouette of a human head.
2. Choose “View Apple ID.” Log in, and wait for it to load.
3. Head to “Manage,” which is under “Subscriptions.”
Go ahead and switch that bad boy off—if that’s what you want, of course. you will still get the 3 month trial, but wont be auto renewal |
