Love, an over used word?

Being a bit of a profile perv, and a nosey mare, i like browsing profiles and reading verifications.
What im noticing is that at the end of the verifications, folks are ending with, 'luv you babes', 'love you'. Now have to say from the few I have seen, it tends to be women, that end with that.
I think I find it strange, me personally I would never put that on a verification.
So is the word Love over used? I tell my family and friends regularly that 'I love them', but thats because I genuinely do! Do other people just use it as a word with no real meaning? |

Personally, I only tell my kids I love them, and kiss and cuddle them as long and as often they let me: I don't love anyone else.
I couldn't possibly comment on the mental state of the women who put "I luvs yu babe" on some profile of a stranger that had just shagged them bandy. But I do think the word "love" IS overused, especially on this site! |

I like to say sweet nothings to my left hand and often tell it I love it, but I do use 'love' in this case quite lightly and over used, cuz when I user right hand that the real love of my life, it does just so much more and works it's magic more than the left. So I would just like to say to my right hand 'I LOOOVVVVVEEEEEE YOU'  |

i tell my hubby and children i love them and often........ also some very close friends and of course family.... wouldn't use to peeps though....... so yes in here think it is over used xxx |

I'd say I probably use the phrase...'Anyone seen my car keys?' more often than 'I love you'. In fact I probably use 'Anyone seen my car keys' more often than any other phrase in the English language. |

Sadly I am guilty of this....... 
I wouldnt say Love you at the end of a message to someone on fab, but I do tend to say, I love Chameleons, I loved my night out, I love oral sex, that kind of thing.
to me the word love means a varient of things to me. I can say love you to a friend or someone Im really close to, if I say Im in love with you, thats different |

Have to confess I agree with you. For me, there are various types and levels of love, and when it comes to relationships, at it's most basic it's something more than just, "I like you a lot"!
Of course, when you get into the swinging scenario/environment then it surely must be taboo? Or maybe it depends what swinging is to a particular individual?

I wouldn't say it was overused as much as misused.
The word itself seems to have lost it's meaning nowadays.
Society seems intent on bestowing everyone with platitudes and sincerity is hard to recognise.
Every emotion has to have a card to express it properly so that we seem no longer capable of finding the right word for ourselves.
"luv u babes"....it's hollow; the fact it is abbreviated denotes how much sincerity is given to it. |

Precisely. It's lost it's meaning because people now attach it to 'things' as well as people or emotions between people.
So we get assinine remarks like ... I love chocolate cake etc....
It's not a different kind of love...... you cannot love an inanimate object. Gross misuse. |

Exactly! Love and hate equally.
I'm actually raising my children to use them properly...to the point that I make them suggest alternative words and they aren't even allowed to use the word 'hate' ....I can't believe how much that word get's banded about, as if it holds no meaning.

Yes maybe it has lost its meaning a little, but you know there are worst things in life. We are all different. I wont change and try and use the word love differently because its me and I love using it how and when I like |
