"The BBC are remaking Swallows and Amazons and have said the name b of one of the children is too sexual in today's climate and is renaming the character from Titty (presumably Laetitia) to Tatty What do you all think ? " Bit silly, but i do remember the Daily Mail getting in a fuss when Nigger the dog had his name changed when the Battle Of Britain got remastered. Although that was probably for the best.

Why for the best? It was historically accurate. As for the name, I think Tilly would have been a better change, Tatty makes her sound like a potato, someone is bound to complain about links to vegetables!

Not sure but the was more likely to be the Dambusters. "Nigger" was the name of Guy Gibson's dog. But yes, probably for the best.

Sometimes I feel censorship goes too far. You cannot change history because if a word that may cause offence. Especially when that word is so often used by the people who are offended by it in their music and popular culture. I don't rhi k Guy Gibson intended to name his dog to offend black people, he just named it because it was a black Labrador!

Fair point but these days some people are so sensitive to the "N" word that I suppose it is better to avoid it whenever possible. Although I do find it quite strange that it is in regular use in a lot of rap "music" (note the quotes around "music" )

It also doesn't change the fact that it WAS the name of Guy Gibson's dog and you can't erase that fact. History should be preserved and taught accurately otherwise we never learn from our mistakes.
