I have depression & anxiety issues, but sometimes my mood just suddenly drops out of no where. It feels like depression but it comes on really quickly

Does anyone else get this?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Are you bi polar?

Are your sugar levels good?

Are you tired too?

Yes. I can be really happy one minute & the next I'm just morose, and nothing is right.

No, not bi polar. Sugar levels are fine, bit tired but my sleeping pattern's off.

I wonder if it's just sadness & whether I'm attributing it to depression.

If you're feeling sad then that might make your depression drop even further at times.

Yeah, maybe.

I have a doctors appointment coming up anyway, I'm determined to finally fix myself once and for all so at least I'm making some progress.

I have battled depression since my early teens, been depression free for the last year.

I have days where i just feel down for no real reason or duvet days (thats just another way of saying crying days) but it passes n when it does i think to myself, i probably just needed a good cry

You'll be fine, depression is a hard battle to fight but once you see the little crack of light it starts to flood in

Are you on the pill? Some hormones cause mood swings.

That's made me feel a bit better, I just feel like curling up in a little ball right now.

Fixing "once and for all" is a big task. Break it down to fixing for today and then tomorrow. The days all add up and before you know it the fix becomes the norm.

It's taken me 40 years (and spending £8k on therapy over the last two years) to get to the point where I can say fixing once and for all is unrealistic for me but that fixing for today is highly achievable.

No I'm not. Coincidentally I'll going back on it if it works with any antidepressants I might go back on.

Well, attempt. Yeah, I believe in the one day at a time approach

You say it comes on quickly, do you ever get heart palpitations with this, sometimes perhaps they might wake you.

For years I struggled with flippy moods... one day brilliant... the next crap. Then I jacked in my job and it suddenly became clear that I'd been living a lie and trying to make the best of it... on those days that I felt good it was me making the party happen... when I felt crap I could just see it for what it was... crap.

It could be that you are borderline bipolar... but I just wanted to add this post because it may be that the choices you've made in life, or the life you're living, really aren't what you had hoped for yourself and that you may perhaps need to remember the child within you, what she wanted from life, and go try and find that again

Since leaving my job my life hasn't been easy... but this flippy mood thing has stopped. So maybe my advice isn't brilliant... but you may recognise something in it that helps you. Good luck

Mr

It's called modern life. I do 150 miles a day and work and still have to cook when I get home. Not too mention all of the house work.

No surprise that we get a bit pissed off now and again.

And then add not getting any regularly...

So... Basically concentrate a little on me and take care of myself a bit more?

I suffered for few years dropping out of activities and life in general being desireless- seeking nothing, wanting nothing. I took up cycling my mood lifted my desire for life reingnited. If you're currently seeing a health professional about your depression you should speak with them about your feelings. There's so many things that could be causing these feelings in you itd be best to seek professional support. Good luck and take care.

"So... Basically concentrate a little on me and take care of myself a bit more?"

Well... there's a lot of good advice on this thread, from suggestions about bipolar to dealing with depression etc... and it could be those things so just tune into what feels right to you. I just wanted to add the possibility that it may be as simple as being in the wrong job, living in the wrong environment, heading towards the wrong future, etc. As the poster after me said, modern living can sometimes be really unnatural and alienating, hard work and stressful. In my case my flippy mood was a sign that I needed to stop living a lie. I was in a job which was comfortable... but it wasn't what I wanted to do with my life and that was the source of the tension. This may not be your situation in the slightest... but it may also be that you do not have a medical condition... and that it's a social condition instead.

Apparently one of the original aims of psychotherapy was to help someone feel comfortable even if they were on the rack. Psychotherapy also has a notion of what's normal as whether you are fitting in with society or not. The problem with this is that sometimes, take for instance in Nazi Germany, we really shouldn't hope to fit in and be comfortable in a society or a life situation that is wrong for us. Sometimes... it's just better to get off the rack and do something else

"Nut doctor"?

No, it's not bi polar. That's characterized by manic periods too, I don't have manic periods.
