"given that most test results take 2 weeks to come back (at least the do at my local GUM clinic i am not sure how this is going to work?
You'll know in time for the next meet...."
lol
but seriously, if the ability to detect STD's that quickly is available then why do clinics not use it? |

Good idea on paper which won't take off because of the basic psychology that people don't really want to know about someone's STI's whilst their having sex with them... by that point we'd rather just dive in and wish for the best
What would be better would be a little home kit that you can test yourself with before a meet. STI test before sex... not during it lol |

"According to Jonny, you drive a Subaru, is this true?"
There will be some claims for compo if it shows incorrectly against someone who is clear, so it will more than likely be a 'guide only' in small print, |

So if it's gential warts which a condom doesn't protect against as its a skin to skin contact STI and condoms don't cover the scrotum or anus and it's an STI that is contagious from said contact and can take up to 3months for visible signs to be apparent how would the condom predict it in those circumstances? Clever idea in theory I don't see it being practical |

What they failed to mention is that it takes the condom 3 months to reliably change to the correct colour... so you'd need to hang it off your mantle piece for the time being and try not to notice the smell |

You can get results in a couple days and HIV results in 5 mins... Used quite widely... |

Searching through the purse\wallet for a clean one has to be a bit of a passion killer,
Plus this mean you would have to label them if meeting multiple partners
Hold on,
Free STI checks available to all, results available in 3months, apply within,
Haha |

"It's an interesting concept but may give a false sense of security to some, through delays in detection, it's error rate etc."
I think the same though its still a good idea so I hope it catches on. |

I suspect what could happen is that people would use it to see if there were 'any issues', then take it off and not use anything if it seemed like people were in the clear...
A kind of health check before going without protection... |

No protection for the woman or other man though. |

It is only a concept folks Three school kids "designed" the concept for the TeenTech awards.
A layer of chemicals on the condoms surface attach to bacteria and viruses commonly found in STIs causing molecules on the condom to emit a low fluorescent light that changes color based on the STI it attaches to.
That is the theory |

Great theory but needs thinking through. Well done to the kids. |

Yes as we said in the other thread.
Imagine the scenario two people decide to have sex and "test" by using such a condom first if it doesn't change colour they then decide to have sex without condoms as the girl is on the pill.
If one catches an STI from the other the condom makers reputation is ruined.
Any earlier users then demand free STI tests to ensure they do not have an STI and the couple concerned claim damages for the potential damage to their lives.
Having said that it is just such concepts that leads to amazing developments. |

I for one will be very surprised if this idea makes it past the lawyers.
Forget the claims for malicious falsehood and defamation for false positive results can anyone imagine the hew and cry when an educational becomes the centre for a STI epidemic because of one or more false negatives... |

Well done to the kids. Very creative.
Maybe only a concept idea. But could inspire home. Testing on a wider scale.
Very easy to reject ideas and find faults. Far harder to have an original idea to solving an issue. |

Because we all keep and label our used condoms...
Besides how would you know of it is the wearer or the receiver who has the SDI? |

It will change colour on the inside instead of on the outside |
