Hip hop heads or people that like rap music....
the state hip hop is in today is a fucking joke!
Drake? Lil wayne? Nikki minaj? ...how do they reach a mainstream audience?
What ever happened to the old skool hardcore stuff..? And the melllow jazz hip hop?
The likes of pharcyde? M.o.p? Early Dr. Dre? Onyx etc.
its infuriating! Proper music is dead!

Regardless of genre, I think when you start complaining that music is dead and that new music isn't as good as older acts then it's time to buy some slippers and accept that middle age has well and truly hit |

"Love the older hip hop
My younger sister asked to borrow my hip hop CDs yesterday, there's hope for the kids yet "
You can't even get the electro albums on CD. Still got my vinyls though. |

Amen. The 90's are regarded as the true golden age of hip hop / RnB.
OC times up, Mos Def, gravediggaz, Methodman (love his chemical brothers remixes), Ol dirty bstard, Das EFX,
Aswell as the usual Dre, Ice T & cube, etc.
Just a great time for musician general. |

I am no aficionado of rap, but you have to admit, that the constant churn of shite that pours out of the music industry nowadays has somewhat spoiled it. Granted, there's a tune that get your head nodding or puts a smile on your face, but for the most, they are throw away bands that are neither making an original tune (just sampling old), or their lyrics do not have any real meaning, other than self indulgence (for the most) |

I'm guessing most people aren't into battle rap.
But it's defiantly worth taking the time to have a look at "don't flop" on YouTube
In particular mark grist, the guy is an absolute beast of a wordsmith.
Mark grist vs blizzard is awesome |

Love battle rap, even got the kids listening to it. Some of the best early stuff (late seventies ealy eighties)came from the battles between mc's. Those guys knew how to destroy! |

Most mainstream music is crap, and the rap genre is no different.
Rap music emerged from Jamaicans bringing the dancehall stylee toasting to parties in New York and evolved from there.
The others are right, when you start complaining and comparing old skool music with contemporary offerings, it really is time to retire to Tunbridge Wells and spend your days writing letters to the editor.
Regardless of whichever golden age of music you hanker after, music is not better or worse. Just different.

I grew up with Dre, Nate Dogg, Mobb Deep etc.
Then for me it hit a golden era with Ja Rule, Camron, Nore, Badboy records, etc. Loads to mention.
Since getting back into it last few years been heavily into Jigga and Yay. Watch the Throne and Yeezus are both incredible albums in my view.
I'm not quite into all the new stuff so sort of agree with what you are saying. However I am really into Drake so think he is an exception. |

Proper music is dead!
there are many people who would have said exactly the same thing when dre, Tupac and the like started 'talking' instead of singing and using real instruments!"
the roots came out around the same time as 2pac they are a hip hop neo soul band. They all play real instruments |

the first big rap song was Blondie, Rapture in 80/81.
ok, so it was a bit cheesy, but its rap as the name says.
not sure how hip hop differs from rap, maybe it doesnt? |

And the drake fans and everyone else now will quote the similar excuses to the oldies moaning about "real music" |

Artists like Dizzy Wright, Kendrick Lemar & J Cole are newer artists with lyrical content because old school hip hop really was about the lyrics you should try listening to them |

Repetitive nonsensical music is played on mainstream radio stations as a form of programming to dumb down the listeners.
There's a sinister element of mind control and also the obvious tactic of promoting specific record labels artists to make these labels the most money.
Real Hip-Hop, in terms of great new and old artists, is still thriving today with great tracks and albums being released and live performances across the globe.
But you have to search for it because you absolutely will never hear these artists music on mainstream stations during the day.
If anyone is willing to give some thought provoking British lyricists a try, I'd recommend.
