Actor on the dole. Like that's never happened before! Actors, for the most part rarely get the majority of their income from acting. Their isn't the volume of work to support them all, all the time. Why else do waiting staff give such good performers to awkward diners?

Perhaps if was a good actor he might get a job?

And I don't think he will be doing the tv show for nothing

Exactly...and he now says he can't do a normal job! Perhaps he should have saved some of the £1M he says he earned instead of socialising with Hollywood stars?

He'd be good on shameless. Wouldn't even need a script. One of Frank's old school mates that moved off the estate, then circumstances brought him back. He would make a good landlord of a flat roofed pub.

Crazy...if you saved that much money, the interest alone would pay your bills.

Acting is not exactly a stable job, so maybe he should have saved some of his earnings for when the work dries up just like all self employed people do.

He wasn't the greatest actor anyway.

if you spent £1k per week it would last over 19 years and that is without investing and interest

It's funny how people who have had so much can end up with so little.

I worked out to be able to quit my job and take on something less demanding And live comfortably I'd need £100,000, probably less.

A drop in the ocean compared to what some people piss up the wall

His none acting was self inflicted, had he done as he was asked instead of not turning up he might still have work

I thought this was someone else helping the rozzers with their enquiries at first.

I'd imagine anyone could end up on the dole if work dries up, or a firm goes bust overnight.

To my knowledge he is a recurring alcoholic so he's obviously pissed up all up the wall butiI've just read somebodies comment about living off the interest from 1M and I'm sure it's about 20 grand on average montly so your bills would be coverage entirely off that alone.

That's hardly an excuse to squander £1M! He doesn't inspire any sympathy from me...he didn't come across in any way humble in the interview I read, packed in a job because he reckoned fans kept turning up at his work (as if!), and thinks most jobs he's offered are beneath him.

When there are hardworking families struggling to balance finances yet still managing to pay their bills and keep a roof over their heads his 'poor me' attitude doesn't wash.

I do believe people kept turning up at the garage where he worked but that's still a shit excuse for leaving. I have no sympathy for somebody that's had a tremendous chance in life and binned it. Worse thing is he wasnt half bad at all as an actor (for his level of acting that is, he's not on de niros level)

His record for causing mayhem while on corrie probably makes him unemployable as an actor. Too full of himself when he had it all. The phrase pride before a fall springs to mind.

In your bed

Saw a bit of it. The other actors seemed to be trying other stuff.

The bit I saw of him was about him writing a fairy book and going to the pub after the stress of taking a minor IT course.

I have a worry he may not have hit bottom yet. Never great for anyone to be an alcoholic some recover others hit bottom and keep going.

I would imagine he got a whopping fee for his front page headline and the documentary , most of us would be set up for a long time , he will just squander it then undoubtedly whinge about how hard life is treating him , my philosophy is work hard and make your own luck in life , I have little sympathy

I was flicking through and saw it, was a little surprised admittedly but then did read about his issues with alcohol.

I'm also pretty sure I read it was series 2 but I cannot find any info on series 1 anywhere. Does anyone know who else has been on it or is set to go on it?

I cant imagine the fee was huge. End of the day he is desperate so they prob knocked him down

I have personal experience of 'Roy Battersby', when I worked as an overseas administrator for a large travel company a number of years ago...

This is a man who relies on the power of fame to get what he feels is due to him.....unfortunately, he didn't bank on the fact that nobody actually watched Corrie in the resort so not many people had a clue who he was

must have been a bit of a blow upon saying to a bewildered Spanish rep 'Do you know who I am?' and getting the reply...non senor!!

I think a lot of people consider their own lives and then get frustrated how someday had so much and wasted it all. I guess that's also what brings in the viewers.

Addiction is a difficult subject. A lot of people take a dim view of it until such time as it affects them or a loved one.

I think you knew exactly what I meant but I will elaborate.... So people can't say what they think of someone because they have an addiction because if you do you are called vile .

To your next post, some of us don't see an addiction as an illness.

Making excuses for people making poor decisions in their life is up to you obviously... But sometimes people just have to take responsibility for their own actions.

I think he has feelings of grandeur because he was an actor, his comments when looking on the Job centre site of " how can I do a normal job when I am an actor " didn't endear him to me."

I think he's hungry for any publicity, perhaps any cash too, so he can pop to the pub with his mates for a few drinks.

He doesn't seem like someone who's had humble beginnings and happy to acknowledge wherever his position in life is.

It's a bit tired if a former high profile person can't just let their superiority complex go.

It's also difficult to know whether the producers like him to perform a certain way, and then accentuate it. I didn't know him from Coronation Street, having seen him for only a few minutes in it. I'd certainly not expect him to get privileges over me or others.

But, the tragic thing is when addiction is there, and someone's caught between a rock and a hard place - I'm glad I'm not in that situation.
