I like Stephen Fry but he did seem to throw his toys out the pram when he got called on it.

""The television presenter came under fire last month after he was apparently quoted claiming the only reason women slept with men is that "sex is the price they are willing to pay for a relationship".

Writing on his blog, he said his remarks had been taken out of context and misunderstood.""

He said his remarks were not "some kind of eternal gender truth" and said: "I was simply taking a thought for a walk".

although he didn't help himself afterwards when he alluded that being inter_iewed by the press was akin to being raped

I don't care, I still find him witty, an innocent at times, like a bumbling uncle he knows a bit about the real world, more about his own....oh and I and loved his books.

used to like a bit of fry and laurie.but his star dimmed as hugh laurie went to hollywood.tend to turn off the tv when he comes on.having said that.he is very very intelligent.and i believe his quotes WERE taken out of context.he is the sort of guy that if you let him ramble on long enough, you will get a quote that any amoral journalist can twist into a STORY.anyway.even if he was some sort of misogynist, and meant what he SAID.so bloody what.who cares.

Actually in the context of an article in a gay magazine he was trying to make the point, females may confuse sex with love, more than males...ie gay males who are very promiscious

Stephen Fry - an English institution?

Easy to be misquoted by the press, remember that a bad news story is always more lilely to be covered than a good news one.

Got o say i wont have a word said against Stephen Fry , sadly in this country there is an undercurrent of disdain and sneering at people with intelligence and the ability to speak in coherent and articulate sentences , rather than slang or street speak.

Think programmes like QI have made being intelligent cool again , and about time too , surely we want our kids to seek to excel and gain as much knowledge as possible.

Knowledge is power and more importantly creates opportunities and gives choices.

We love QI here and agrre with the comments above.

Suggest if you haven't you read the article in the Independent Online - we posted the link above.

There's two things here:

1) is that what Mr Fry thinks himself?

2) The fact that whether or not he actually said what he is accused of saying..... nontheless a number of gay men DO "pity" straight people and hate women because they don't have sex the same way as gay men do... Stephen Fry might not think it but it is an attitude held by many other gay men.

Of course one thing is that swingers are more like many gay men in their attitude to having sex
