Rich in omega 3 and monounsaturated fats. Contains Vitamin D. High in potassium. Mackerel has a lot of health benefits. Mercury levels in some are low but in King Mackerel it's high- I found that out when looking at ways of getting omega 3 into my diet.

I'm not sure but I think it depends where they were caught as to the levels of mercury in them. Or it could be their size. It was hard work trying to find a balance of omega 3 -mercury levels in fish I could eat. I don't like cooking fish with heads and tails on which meant fresh sardines are off the menu. Tinned fish weren't as healthy as some have additives.

There are a few species of Mackerel, only one of which we get in our waters - King Mackerel is one that we don't.

As has been said, they are closely related to Tuna species.

River fishing is so boring.

The first time I went sea fishing, it was in Abersoch on a mate's boat in 1986. From that day forward I was hooked

Line caught Mackerel slung on the barbie is awesome if seasoned correctly
