Ear lobe hoops

Bit of a weird one, but is anyone else really disgusted by those enormous hoops of stretched skin people are making out of their ear lobes these days, seen it a fair bit recently. Its usually the same sort of bell ends that have bushy beards, skinny jeans, glasses with no lenses and pretentious wanky tattoos.

Not always, some of us have had them since the 90's pre hipster days

Not a big fan of them myself, but each to their own.

It's youth culture though innit? Same as trousers worn half way down the arse. Again, I don't really see the need to do that... But fashion changes so quickly, relative to how slowly we age.

I remember it used to be fashion for Bros lovers to wear Grolsch (was it Grolsch?) bottle caps in their shoes.

OP, I am sure in your youth there was loads of stuff that you did in the name of fashion, that your elders frowned upon

Don't be such a stick in the mud

How judgemental of you.

What ever happened to accepting people for who they are. Just because they choose to wear certain clothes or decorate their bodies differently to you makes them no less human.

Many would brand the people on this very site as perverts lacking in morality or riddled with diseases. I bet you'd defend your lifestyle choice then wouldn't you.

A guy like this was in the tattoo/piercing shop when I was getting my lip done and I was mesmerised......he let me touch it and told me he has plastic discs he squeezes in when he eats - he looked pretty cool to be fair and had tattoos all over his face too

Each to their own and all that, if they like it I see no problem.

As a slight aside, I do wonder though how many people have, or will eventually, regret all this body modification that has been a trend over the last decade or so.

Those ear hoops you mention OP must cause permanent long term damage to the ear lobe (whereas a simple piercing can heal over), and tattoos are very difficult to remove particularly if you are covered in them.

I know I did things in my youth I regret but nothing that left permanent marks! I wonder if many now look back and think yeah, those tattoos or ear hoops looked great when I first got them or when was younger - but now times have changed and I've moved on I'm not so sure about them now but stuck with them?

No!

Just because someone chooses to look or dress a certain way, it's doesn't make them a bell end!

Most of them probably don't give a rats arse that you and some others don't like it. It only matters that they do.

I don't like them personally but I don't judge people who choose to have them. I saw a cosmetic surgery programme recently. There was a guy who had massive holes in his lobes who was getting the skin cut off and sown back together. They done quite a good job!

Just where I need to be.

I was walking with my daughter a few years ago and the wind blew her hair and I noticed she had a stretcher in her ear. Luckily she had just started to do it. I got her to remove it and the ear hole closed. I had a chat and said that if she still wanted to do it in 6 months time I would not object but I wanted her to think hard about it as I knew she did things on whims. 6 months later she didn't want her ears stretched. She preferred her face piercings

I saw that too. You beat me to it. I am not a fan of piercings in general however I would never judge somebody on their appearance. Very narrow minded imo.

If people don't keep them scrupulously clean they're VERY unpleasant to be around.

This is what puts me off. Not the aesthetics.

Not disgusted, they look OK with the discs in, but I think the majority are going to be having reconstructive surgery in a few years. As with a lot of peoples tattoos, its a long term fashion, but it is a fashion, and will fade. Many will and do regret their tattoos, even the people that considered long and hard before committing.

You can always shave a beard off, and some of those guys have spent years growing them! Glasses with no lenses though? Oh dear. That's just a step too far.

That depends on what he's wearing and why. If someone goes out of their way to stay "on trend", they will end up looking like a prepuce. Think Edina Monsoon. Tell me she wasn't a bell end!

But there are an awful lot of people that do wear things without a thought as to what they look like from an aesthetic point of view. A trendsetter I can admire. An individual I can admire. Wearing something (other than for functionality) because all your mates are wearing it is a bit...juvenile. I'd just like a bit more thought put into some peoples choices. There are plenty of people wearing the emporers new clothes.

The only guy I know with stretcher hoops in his ears, long hair, a beard and tattoos - is one of the loveliest guys I know in non fab land. Would do anything for anyone. He's a real gem and great looking. He's happy with his look and I enjoy the fact that we are all so different. If we weren't - it really would make the world a bland and boring place.

Each to their own.

My ex gf was covered in piercings, both lobes stretched, but if you don't go past a certain point - I think it's 10mm or something, don't quote me on that! - then they'll eventually shrink back if the tunnels are left out. However they do need to be kept extremely clean otherwise the ear cheese is rank, but I can only assume that people who do have a lot of piercings are educated enough to take care of their body. And don't judge people on appearances... Said ex also had a Mohawk, but she has a degree in English Language & Linguistics & she's an office worker.

My fwb has a stretched lobe - and a few other piercings - that hasn't healed completely but it doesn't bother me.

I've seen one person with them and wouldn't have had any hesitation for a fuck.

It does seem a pity for a body to be altered, potentially beyond reversal, when people can regret stuff.

But, it's great that we're all open to self-expression.
