on the road to nowhere in particular

There is an online campaign to install Andy Saunders as presenter on Top Gear. For anyone who hasn't heard of him, he is one of this country's finest custom car builders. They include the yellow speedboat made from a Reliant Robin, Citroen Picasso 2CV, Mini-haha the worlds shortest mini and also the worlds lowest car. His cars regularly turn up in the daily papers and at promotional events.

There is also an FB page.

He's a thoroughly nice guy too.

Often think that the BBC should give new folks a chamce, rather than the default position of always going for has beens.

I thought if they were ging down that route they'd go for someone like Ed China ( the guy from wheeler dealers).

Coulthard and Jordan would be good on it too i reckon.

They are doing. Chris Evans has said that, as May and Hammond got their chance from auditions, he will be auditioning for their replacements.

They are. They've opened it up to auditions.

They should scrap everything except the name and build everything fresh, it's a poisoned chalice now so make something new and original.

Dead flogging horse a.

Scratch that, just remembered his shirts were worse than May's, Suzi Perry/Natalie Pinkham instead of him, something nice for me to look at

Older Hot Bearded Guy

I'm not fussed about who/what's going on with Top Gear, anymore.

I'm just patiently awaiting Clarkson, Hammond & May to reconvene on another project, some place else.

I was never interested in Top Gear per se, in the first place. It was all about the unique bond they'd formed together, their charisma and humour... that really resonated with the viewer.

by the big field

Andy Saunders is an automotive god- if you want someone who really knows about cars, he's a fine choice.

I've been a fan of his work since the 80's when he produced the afore mentioned 3 wheel speedboat- then realised he didn't have a trailer for it, so he built his own transporter out of a peugeot 504 with hydraulics to lower the back end.

The Pontiac he built/restored is exquisite and the 50's sci-fi inspired ford, that he hand built from the original sketches is just amazing

Not to mention his Citroen CX, van cake VW transporter and the Bentley. A real automotive genius.
