I had a very nice surprise this morning when one of the other mums at my twins preschool said she had a gift for me. She is an Indian woman and said as it is Diwali it is custom to give something to their friends and family .She had given me a container of some very scrummy looking treats that she had made for the festival.I was very touched as I am also not from here originally and in the past have also lived in other countries abroad and know that it isn't always easy to make friends and feel a part of things.I also enjoy learning about different cultures and customs so I came straight home to google Diwali to learn about it...not sure if this will interest anyone else...lol...but it just warmed my heart this morning and felt I would share |

yes and I needed it...lol...my son has been waking at 4:30 all week so I was exhausted and fell back to sleep only to wake up again at 8 am, not having heard my alarm...lol...I never rushed around so much in my life as i did this morning...was very proud that I still managed to get all 3 washed fed dressed and out the door for 8:35.(I think both twins ate breakfast..either that or one had 2 breakfasts...lol)always makes me feel better though when I get to the top of the hill and can see a few other parents just leaving their houses to make the walk to school too...lol |

Our favourite Indian Restaurant is holding the Festival of Lights buffet party tonight, we can't make it but the owners gave me a lovely gift box of Barfi and Laddu sweets as we are regulars.
They themselves are not Hindu but they celebrate all Indian festivals in their restaurant, whatever the religion.
I think some people could learn a lesson from their ability to accept all faiths. |

I totally agree.years ago I worked as an aupair in switzerland , in a very international part and met people from over 40 countries...was such an eye opener and was great to find out a bit about places and people's faiths .I would have never really even thought of had I stayed back home in Canada and never travelled.
