He's apparently very concerned about "mother earth".

It made me think that even a guy with blind faith in being saved by a higher being realises were fucking the place up!.

Although I noticed he said they weren't in favour of reducing the catholic population to help with the problem

They just have a new PR team. Apocalyto is Latin for "let's be green".

I wonder how many shares the church has in environmentally damaging companies?

I agree about the population bit, but environmentalism and Christianity have never been incompatible - the Christian concept of stewardship is interpreted by many Christians to refer to environmental protection.

Remember all that black smoke they released to announce they had voted a new pope in.

That didnt help things. Probably burned a few bin bags or something.

.

That's the thing I struggle with... They get the concept and science but they struggle to let go of nonsense like condom's.

I mean just that concept alone means we've millions more people than what we would have had!.

In 1850 we didn't have to worry so much about coal fires and population as there was less than a billion people but at 7 billion you really can be very enviro friendly and still create more pollution than in 1850.

I guess that's the real problem with faith... It's a lapse of rational thinking

'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step'.

It's good to see that the Catholic Church continues to head in the right direction even though for some their velocity of travel is a bit slow.

Faith by its very nature provides 'comfort', it's difficult for some to move beyond their comfort zone.

I didn't know confusious did Catholicism .

I find it rather enlightening that the very people who place there future in blind faith at least grasp our own fate!

It's a timely prompt, as the right wing republican presidential candidates all deny man made climate change - alot are Catholics - but for a low chance female.

I don't believe in sky fairies but at least they're following sound scientific principles on global warming at the Vatican.

This planet's fucked anyways.

None of the powers that be will do anything to stop it going down the toilet. Not when there's profit to be made from fossil fuels.

The planets got another 5 billion years.... It's us that's fucked pretty soon unless we can control our own species

I like the states, but they really do have serious issues with their politicans.

The last guy was a friggin devout Mormon and then you've got the lot with the thick eyebrows who take the bible literally, including the whacky brimstone and fire ending

Hello Sophie,

"I don't believe in sky fairies but at least they're following sound scientific principles on global warming at the Vatican"

Sorry, but that's just not true.

The theory is proving to be false as the evidence is just not following the models. Even the IPCC agree on that.

Alec

Hello Alec!... We've been through this before.

No they don't, there's discrepancies which can't be explained at the moment and need further research but the general evidence is following the models although.... There models! Not absolutes.

If you ever get bored of reading the heartland institutes propaganda funded by the way by the koch brothers.. Yes kochs by name cocks by nature.

Try reading any of the 10000 or so peer reviewed scientific evidence based literature that the IPCC use, of which I think there's 2 that show negative impact... 2 out of ten thousand!.

The argument about climate change ended years ago... Even the sceptics gave up, they just argue about how much impact there'll be now!

I think over population will be far more significant than the planets consistently changing climate .

Hello SB,

yes we've been here before but what is appalling is the vast amounts of money being squandered by various governments that we all pay for to try and control the climate. We can't do it, no more than we influence it as suggested by man made CO2. I know they are models but if they do not include sufficient factors the results will be skewed.

18 years and five months is the last count that I saw with no increase in global temperatures. Will you be like the Royal Society who accept that, but want to wait another fifty years before they accept that the theory is wrong?

Alec

The problem with non-experts, like politicians, is that they'll follow their paymasters advice and not global experts.

Man mad global warming is not worth denying, unless you can analyse the masses of data, publish your findings in a professional peer reviewed scientific journal and be at odds with virtually 100% of world experts.

Population levels will damage our world, and higher volumes of people's lives will be affected and likely lost. But most damage will arise from energy use and industry, which have not altered significantly or quickly enough to mitigate the catastrophe we face.

You'd hardly know there was a problem, based on the current state of disinterest. That is the role of political leaders, taking charge during urgent times.
