Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I'm just back from a couple of days down there. I didn't look at dogging (not my thing) but there were lots of bars serving cocktails.

Just a bit...that being said that beach has some special late night memories for me.

Surely the Army won't require you to work 24hrs a day...even at night, nice lil BBQ & some sexy company....

You'd be horrified if you knew how much they want me to work though :O

But I think a beach bbq is definitely an idea to look into ^_^

Bournemouth is actually a pretty naff night out nowadays ....used to be excellent .

1812 and aruba are both half decent bars ..... restaurant wise can't remember many but the mint leaf indian restaurant in the triangle was excellent .

The beaches are lovely if you go southbourne/boscombe ....the main beach is usually full of chavs .

overall i find bournemouth a bit of a shit hole (excluding the beaches ) and pretty rough with a lot of violent crime and awful roads /drivers .

I guess its personal preference but since I'm driving for my job those other drivers may be an issue

We're originally from Dorset, must say you calling Bournemouth a shit hole when your profile states you come from Southampton did make me laugh..never met anyone that goes to Southampton for a meal/night out but know plenty from your neck of the woods that come to Bournemouth/Poole.

"Try googling it"

I don't need to Google anything. I know Southampton fairly well so I'll stick with my opinion that Bournemouth is a far nicer place then Southampton.

Gosport

It makes a pleasant change from the the usual Portsmouth vs Southampton grudge over which is worst.

gosport ish

Most places have good and not so good parts about them. I go to southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth/Poole with my job and on the whole all are ok places. It's what you make of the time you'll be there

I'm not from Southampton I just live there now and I certainly wasn't trying to upset anyone .

I lived in Bournemouth for nearly 6 years and I found it a rough place to live ( I lived in southbourne so not a rough area ) and the night life pretty poor .

I used to really enjoy Bournemouth for a visit but now it's full of stag parties / hen parties and students .

It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it , no need to get all excited about it

I thought that Bournemouth is probably an area for stag/hen parties just from the number of bars with cocktail offers, group party deals and private room in bars being advertised.

The beach is fantastic and there seemed to be a number of nice eateries though.

The beaches are lovely and I still go there for that , southbourne / boscombe beaches are better than the main beach though .

Some of the eateries seem to have down graded there food lately but still good ones about .

We couldn't get into the one I wanted to go to as they were busy on a Monday night. Lots of mussel dishes on the menu. I had my fishy dishy at Studland the next day instead.

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Areas around Boscombe ARE rough! Loads of druggies and dealers and the like! Got a workmate who rents out and occasionally lives in a flat he bought there. Worst mistake he ever made according to him! At the moment he rents it out and lives in a converted ambulance! You can say anywhere between the Central Station and Bournemouth Football Stadium should be avoided.

If you want a quiet drink in a pub that doesn`t have music/tv blaring away and serves food that fills a hole rather than is where you`d take someone to impress them, try the Goat And Tricycle in West Hill Road (off Poole Hill). They usually have several guest ales on and it`s quite a reasonable place!

Think you`re right! Was quite worried when Landlord Danny and his chef left to go to a pub on Poole Quay but the new landlady has carried on seamlessly where Danny left off!

Where did a grudge come into it ?

I have no grudge against any city , just giving my opinion based on my experiences .

I'm not from Southampton , I'm originally from ascot but I live in Southampton and work in Portsmouth .

I have no allegiance to either city .

I swear some people just sit on here looking for an argument .

Poole

as you are in bovington then wimborne is nice with a couple of alright restaurants and some cracking good pubs and its a lot closer than bmouth to you as well as easier parking and so on. also not full of jerks like bmouth seems to be.

poole quay is also a nice night out, bike night tuesdays is good, fireworks nights and the pubs are good as well.

Try the Tap Inn in Wimborne! Opposite the Wetherspoons Man In The Wall, the Tap sells lots of Real Ales! Happy Hour early on Friday evenings too!

And some good entertainment at the Tivoli a few doors up with a lot of tribute bands, stars from 20-40 years ago and films.
