The first time I'd ever seen, or to my knowledge the first time ever anyone farted on screen was in Blazing Saddles.
When the cowboys sat eating beans around the campfire and one cocked his leg and farted the whole cinema just erupted with laughter.
The laughter got louder with each fart, everyone was crying.
I've never known anything like it since, schoolboy humour maybe but it certainly did the trick!  R
