Sadly tits and ignorance are a garages favourite combo. I worked in one. I was disgusted.

I have also been taken to the cleaners by a garage who was recommended by my friend.

Best bet, get a man to take it for you.

I hope the rip off merchant is ready to feel my wrath!

ATS are one of the worst along with kwikfit. I fortunately know a little bit about cars after working on my own classic minis but i still take one of my male friends with me though if I go to a garage

How have you come to the conclusion that they have done nothing? Depending upon the mileage fron the last documented service it may only require a visual check... or a major service with partial engine strip for cam belts and waterpump... can you tell from looking under the bonnet what has been done???

Can you actually tell us what was included in the invoice ?

Did you have a breakdown on the parts that may have been replaced e.g. plugs, filters

and the quantity of fluids e.g. litres of oil ?

I knew the oil had t been changed or any water filled up my self. There is a problem with car not running properly. So we took it someone else as this particular guy didn't know what was wrong with it as soon as this other guy opened the bonnet he saw a broken pipe!! He checked the oil (no oil) and all clogged up around the top so not been cleaned and the fuel filter is very old and dirty. Also it needs new spark plugs

Nothing is written anywhere, haven't even cleared the cars "brain" as still says it needs a service flashing on the dash board.

Nothing was filled up and no plugs changed or filters.

agree the major garages do know how to add the extras that are not needed as the mechanics must be on commission these places avoid, a national tire chain even refused to sell me a tire unless I gave them my address they want your details to use and sell on, I had cash just said cash sale and car reg on invoice NO CANT DO

So you took it to one garage who

couldn't identify a problem and didn't actually do a service ?

The second garage was able to find the fault and presumably has fixed it ?

So it wasn't actually an interim service in the first place ?

Sadly it is often the case. As some know I run my own little garage and by far my customers are female and most have been had at some point. 1 of the worst cases was a lady who took her car for an mot and after being given a list of jobs that really made know sence to me I persuaded her to let me re take her car to the mot station I used. It failed on 1 tyre. Unbelievable you say sadly no its more normal than you might think.

It has an mot and a service by the first guy that my dad always used! Then the car started doing funny things when driving it! So took it back to first guy and he didn't know what the problem was! Took it to 2nd guy and he could see one problem right way! And then asked if it had a service! I said yes! He said looks like there hasn't been a service!

So yes it was SUPPOSED to have had a service but didn't!

Right it becomes clearer

Sounds like they did the MOT but no service

what was invoiced the first time around ?

If the second garage can make a statement then your best bet would be to go to Trading Standards

My dad has all paper work. He is on holiday at the moment so I'm dealing with 2nd guy and we will deal with second guy when he comes back. Yes he done an MOT and passed it, but definitely no service! Obviously he would have charged for something he didn't do! That's what's pissed me off! People taking the piss!
