The not so obvious nostalgia thread

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

With the Clangers coming back I've been thinking back to what was popular when I was a kiddie. Now I know nostalgia threads are popular and 2 a penny but whenever they crop up the same old things tend to be mentioned (e.g. Spangles, when Snickers used to called Marathons, TISWAS vs SwapShop etc etc)

But what are those slightly more obscure things that used to be around that make you think 'ah yeah! I'd forgotten about that ...?'

For starters, who remembers Weebles? ("Weebles wobble but they don't fall down!") and the Unigate "Watch out, watch out, there's a Humphrey about" campaign with the red & white striped straws?

And did anyone else watch 'Captain Zep super space detective' on TV or even remember it??

What else takes you back to your youth but perhaps wasn't quite as mainstream as the usual nostalgia?

There used to be a series about an alien called Watt on Earth and the entire premise of the show seemed to be built around people asking him what his name was and him saying "Watt" and them saying "I said, what's your name" and so on. But I seemed to like it anyway.

And the Demon Headmaster was good too

Was it Bazooka bubble gum that used to have a little cartoon strip inside?

And some sweets were 2 for 1/2p

And I remember when Today newspaper was launched. It actually included a few pages in colour! Blimey!

I met one of the Blakes 7 last year. She sat next to me and we were chatting away. It took me ages to realise I didn't know her from work or through friends. When the penny dropped she was really cool and charming about me thinking she knew ME.
