Just checked out my online license counterpart since the dvla has decided to get rid of the paper bit.

Found that my license was revoked at somepoint. They never told me about this. Which I'm pretty sure they should have done so then I could have asked why? Now I gotta ring em up and ask why and when.

I think I might know why they done it. Back in 2012 I sent my license off to them so they could put points on it then never got it back. I had a lot on my plate back then and after a while forgot about it. I'm guessing it was either lost in the post or they lost it.

The question now is when I ring them up and inform them of their mistake what happens then? Would they ask for the counterpart as proof even though I don't have it? Would they reinstate my license and apologiese?

Just as well I haven't driven since 2012 too. How bad would it be to get pulled over and find out your license isn't valid.

Has any body else had this kind of trouble?

Sorry to say but, you will most probably have to retake the driving test again. They have done this to a lot of people and almost everyone has had to retake the test

That's what I fear. It means I can't just buy a car insure and tax it then be happy. Really don't wanna take my test again.

Depends why it was revoked, not sure how things work now with new drives or if you were at the time you got the points. Driving without a license will almost certainly get a minimum 6 month ban and a fine.

A ban due to someone else's incompetence would be bad. Glad I gave up the car at the time.

A while back, my car was stolen, and unusually it had my licence in it. I applied for a replacement, duly received.

A few years later, I moved house and sent my licence off for an address change, only to be told my licence was 3 revisions out of date and that I had been banned, with £1,000s worth of unpaid speeding and parking fines.

Needless to say, DVLA said they never make mistakes.

Unpicking it, it seems that the people who stole my licence, also applied for 3 replacements at different addresses and were furnished with replacement licenses by DVLA, ran up several offences, meaning my licence wasn't the latest version, and I was banned.

It took me 2 years of getting copies of customers' visitors books, along with my own work diaries to convince them it wasn't me. Eventually, I had to compile all my evidence, prepare an affidavit, get it notarised by a solicitor, make an appointment with a Judge, swear on my notarised affidavit and present my evidence. The Judge looked at my substantial body of evidence and said he believed me.

Eventually, DVLA grudgingly re-issued me with a licence, but without the motorbike entitlement.

So again started another battle to get that reinstated - fortunately I took my UK car test and UK motorbike test on the same day, at the same test centre and had the same examiner.

Eventually I got my motorbike entitlement back, and then noticed that the place of birth was wrong, but I just couldn't bear the thought of sending my licence back yet again, so have just let it be.

Good luck!

I passed in 1997 and only have the paper copy. The ID is option as far as I am aware, the ID was introduced later. It has just been introduced that you need the ID to hire a car, but the paper cope driving license is still a valid license .... I am pretty sure of that.

yep

from uk dot gov.

Paper driving licences issued before the photocard was introduced in 1998 will remain valid and should not be destroyed.
