Ok, a bit less cryptic than my usual thread titles, but it's a pretty direct question.
I've often wondered, in light of the things you see people doing in porn these days (especially women), how their families, in particular parents must feel about it? I understand that in many cases the performers in question may be able to keep their occupation a secret, but with many pornstars now enjoying minor celebrity status, it's probably unlikely that their families are unaware of what they do for a living.
For those of you with adult children, how would you feel if you learned they were working in porn? |

Not really thought about it to be honest. I would be definitely surprised (she's not the type) but not shocked. The problem is, porn is such a shitty job to work in, especially for a female, so I would probably be a bit worried too. But I hope I'd be supportive and be there for her is needed. |

I have sons and so long as they are safe and not hurting anyone then I'd support them in their choices. I'd never ever ever want to see or know what they were doing in them though.
I also hope they would have enough self respect to not be brought down by any judgements others made of them

My son told me about his film escapades in San Fransisco when he came back from a *modelling trip in his mid 20's after finishing Uni..LOL led astray by Aiden Shaw.. By that time I had become totally chilled over anything he had been up too. My theory had become I would rather know what you up to , than have cops at my door sayin he was dead and me thinking he was an angel.
He actually does tell me everything now as it is easier than hiding his previous life style.
Now he is 37 he has changed grown up and earning a different sort of living. He is my best friend and confidant love him to bits.

I watched an inter_iew with a mother and son about this. She know what he does, he's been very open about it in the press so it would be difficult to hide.
I do wonder whether the inter_iew would have been as accepting between a father and his daughter.

And yet people do make the choice and I would hate to think all their parents are emanating disappointment/you let me down at their adult choice.
I don't watch porn, I have a lot of thoughts about the industry but I have met people who have made the choice to work in porn and I wouldn't describe those people as anything other than educated and well rounded. |

I would find a daughter more difficult to deal with..My daughter in particular! Actually not even sure if dad knows bout son. Not been something I found necessary to discuss with him. Tho the boy has done alot of underwear modelling stuff too.
I dont see his life choices as a fail , circumstances took him in that direction for a while. He chose to earn money rather than go into debt or dole. I admire him for that. He is now very respectable earning a good living. |

The term "educated" can be used in many different ways. In my context it doesn't just mean schooling, but also about feminism and life in general. For her to understand her worth is more than her body on display for others pleasure. For her to be mentally fulfilled as much as physically. Quick easy money doing what you like?! Who doesn't want that.. But it doesn't always give you life long pleasure. And porn will never be erased once made... I truly believe she could potentially jeopardize future professions by being a porn star. Especially when she won't need to do it for the "money". |

Intial reaction ~ I wouldn't be happy & would have a good ole rant as to the reasons why.
After I calmed down I would want to understand why they had choosen to work in porn, a quick way to make money or a career & take it from there.
I wouldn't feel like i failed as a parent though ~ that kind of pressure throughout life doesn't do anyone any good. |

no I'm not at all. I suggest you re-read everything I have said. I don't agree with them portraying rape in porn. Or portraying that they are being hurt. Ano younger society are watching more of that kind of porn which is proving to affect their interactions with girls. I wouldn't want my daughter to be part of that culture of acceptance.

I think all in all your parents want to be proud of u and don't want to think about you having sex. So most parents wouldn't like it. I would imagine that a lot of pressure is put on its performers to indulge in things they are not happy with and at a guess the porn producers network with each other and work would not be easy to find if you have a strict criteria on acts you will not undertake.

There are countless stories of porn workers abusing alcohol, drugs, failure to develop relationships outside of work, illness, suicide.

You got a few years and then it's over for you. I don't know how hard it is to find decent work after. Future boyfriend's may be hard to find if you're honest with them about it. Our family friends and local population know what we do due to the good old British News papers, we love our life and the people we work with and as much as the media paint it out to be seedy we know the Uk adult industry is a safe place.
Our grown kids have jobs miles apart in difference to what we do but they are happy for us that we enjoy our work,
If any of our kids wanted to make a career in porn we know all the right people and places to send them.
As the industry is well run we would have no problems with them wanting to be porn stars, we create loads of new amateur stars each year and know the market enough to advise them the best roads to follow. |

I have to be honest I would be upset and disappoint if my child chose porn as a career.
I would much prefer for them to have a career in medicine, education or something along those lines.
I have no issue with people who choose to work in the sex industry, I do however feel sad for those who are exploited by it.

Like any job you get what you put in, if you are not good yes your career will only last a few years.
We have done this for 20 years almost and are still doing fine, we have meet people we wouldn't usually meet and have filmed all over the world and usually get in most clubs free...yes porn is not a good place lol.
No women we know feel degraded, its usually a confidence boost for them.
Unless you have done it and bought the tee shirt you can't really criticize. |

Please don't take offence as I have tried not to be critical. I don't believe you can only have an opinion if you have had a job in porn. It's just my opinion from all the stuff I have read and listened to. I have heard more bad things than good things. Although there are people who are happy like yourself. There are real and horrible down sides of it, and these are the reasons , my own reasons, why I would be unhappy if my daughter went into porn.
