It's just dawned on me (yes, at dawn - uncanny! ) that it's that time of year again - village fete time!
Now whilst in my youth I used to love the chance to hit these rock and roll events as it was a chance to meet up with friends, win a litre of cooking sherry on the tombola and get pissed whilst getting a healthy dose of food poisoning from the BBQ the local vicar manned - these days it's not quite the same.
Last year I got beaten with the last wang of a welly and missed out on a crate of Stella, came home with a couple of cakes the local God squad talked me into parting with too much cash for and the only thing I won on the tombola was a miniature of Gordon's with one of those cans of tonic sellotaped to it that someone had obviously pocketed on a flight home from the costa del wherever three years ago as the best before date had long since been passed.
But the sproglet loves going so we'll go. I'll take the dog. She's an attention whore and will love the fuss from the old folk and if I get beaten on the welly wanging she can bite the ringer (who's won the last four years but only turns up at the dying hour to pick up his beer!) on the arse for me!
So what's everyone else up to on this bright/grey/windy/rainy (depending on where you are!) Saturday?

I'm off to the local gala. I'm visiting friends in the dales so it'll be be a very scenic one.
Being a crafty type I got roped into making costumes for the munchkins for the fancy dress parade - I even spent most of a day with some wool making a wig! So I'll be very grumbly if whoever wins the costume competition is wearing a bought costume. I don't mind losing to a better or more inventive homemade one but I'm damned if I spent three days cutting and sewing and sticking with only a craft tub and one charity shop for supplies to lose to a kid in a onesie! |

"Staying with my mother for the weekend
If it's nice she wants to go to bingo.
Why if it's nice ? We aren't playing outdoors.
"
Parents!
Can't live with em - biologically impossible to be here without em!

It's my nan and Grandads 60th anniversary bbQ at my rich aunt and uncles house where every conversation will be about how much their new car/furniture/tv etc cost.
Luckily having a young child is my excuse not to be there too late in the evening. X |

I love all our local fetes. They have the best jam , chutney and honey there. Maybe I need to join the WI or Mother's Union.
I'm off to my friends BBQ later on, so have dishes to make to take along. Just starting those! Naughty plans at some stage, and a cycle ride too. Looks like a stunner of a day. |

Randomly when I was little I played beat the goalie at our village fete with Gloria Hunifords grandkids while my parents d*unk tea with her.
Was completely oblivious as to who she was think Karen Kesting was there too god bless her.
They were certainly more fun back in the day. Wonder if coconut shy's are still allowed? |

I have been busy the last few Saturdays so I am enjoying a proper lazy day off. So far there has been coffee, mooching around and cat cuddles.
As for the village fête, I love them. Great for people watching. Bear in mind the social politics going on as you watch the two yummy mummies chatting 'nicely' at the cake stall. The one-upmanship in any form of competitive event. The raised eyebrows at the local rich bloke and his younger wife. If you get bored, invent back stories. Even pretend to yourself you're John Nettles and one of them is a wrong 'un and figure out which... |

The Mothership is here, so she has taken mini minx out for a few hours for me to "nap".... So far I've opened my new magic wand and been playing with the settings. At least I'm in bed, so technically resting
Hopefully tomorrow will be another sunny one, and will head out for a long walk and lunch somewhere..
Love a village fete, Ours is on a green surrounded by 3 pubs. Perfect for a cheeky few Vinos whilst minx runs about. |
