Thing is i don't think it should have been working as the winds that day was high and usually times like that, they wont let the ride open
but yes as someone who likes fast rides, high and the g force
yes i still would |

"I doubt that it will ever be used again
Of course it will
Ok then"
With all the money that's gone on it? There's been a few accidents on that diabolical piece of shit the Grand National at Blackpool and that's been running years |

No one has died on ride there before... Out of decency for those injured it should be dismantled ... If you calculated how many people go on each ride each day would hit millions so yes dreadful but they have a very good record.. No one ever wants this to happen but I suspect risk of every day accidents far higher... Sorry rant over .. Local to Alton Towers |

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack! |
According to a former member of staff on the Jeremy Vine Show the other day, after the change of ownership of the complex, things went from making sure everything went from making doubly sure everything was safe at each ride to "box ticking Health And Safety" and mistakes were being made as a result! |

"I doubt that it will ever be used again"
That almost certainly won't happen especially as these things have happened in the past and people will go back and use the ride again
Personally speaking though, I have vertigo, I'd NEVER EVER use any of these rides because I've always been too scared To

Personally I would have no hesitation in going on it. Similarly I'm happy to catch a train that runs through Potters Bar, drive on roads whete there havr been accidents and run marathons despite people occasionally dying in them. What will be will be |

"If it was staff error, they'll probably get the sack, train better or use more staff. The ride is probably safe. "
I suspect it is more the management culture, pressure to cut corners etc.
How does the saying go? 'If you pay peanuts.....'
Shocking is the lack of any sort of emergency planning: 11minutes to phone for an ambulance, over 40 before the fire brigade were contacted.

Thats ridiculous. People get injured by things all the time and they are not dismantled or abandoned or whatever. I'm sure that there will be law suits filed by those injured to get compensation for their injuries but the park will not dismantle a popular ride because of this. They should and I hope would review their safety procedures etc to ensure that the risk of this happening again is minimal (there is never no risk of injury on things like this) |

And when you think how much it costs to go there should be better staffed |

Your brakes could break or just fail; so don't go too 'fist' |

now time has passed and more information has been made available has your opinion to use them altered.
mine has, a huge fan of coasters but this has exposed big risks
in my opinion, two things must be changed on all coasters before i use them again,
1, each carriage should have impact dissipation areas built into them
2, each section of track that a carriage can stop at must be assessable by platform
hopefully they can be made safer, i still want to use them and said i still would at first, reading about what these guys went through has made me change my mind, at least until these exposed risks are fully addressed |

I did see the statistics on BBC news & chances of injury were something like 1 in 1.5 million or something. I have more chance of being hit by a bus it seems. I also live fairly close to AT, my son is going on a school trip in 4 weeks, my brother went last week. I have no concerns, H&SE will ensure all rides get extra checks. |

Im sorry but how can you decide something for the injured? How do you know that having the ride dismantled may be the worse thing for them mentally, the chance to 'conquer the demon' gone by riding it again?
As the partner of a below knee amputee due to a no fault motorcycle crash, had all motorcycles been dismantled she would have been devastated.
It was an accident as was ours, nobody planned to injure people, the guy who smidsy'd us and those working at AT. And yes I can say this from a position of knowledge as I have experience and understand, life is random. |

If it came back into operation I'd be first in line
These things are generally ridiculously safe and accidents are so rare they make the news when they happen

Will you ride on a train?
Notice there's no seat belts and most don't have much impact protection for anything but minor liner bumps.
They crash a lot more often than roller coasters too.
And don't even get me started on buses... |

Personally, there's far better joy rides to be had out there in the big, bad wilderness world, where you don't have to spend an entirety queuing - or intrust your life to some dodgy engineering! ![](/icons/s/cool.gif) |
