Been using the pedometer on my phone (so not entirely accurate) but in work I'm hitting 10k plus steps every day for the last few months on average about 5-6 miles a day with about 5 of that being in work.
what's mad is I work indoors.
So anyone else use their phones or other pedometers to see how far you walk? |

I try and do minimum 10000 but it varies what I'm doing.
They recommend 1000 a day

10k steps is around 5 miles for the average male walking down the road - in work you're likely to be taking shorter paces though, so a bit less.
Easy to work out - measure your the length of a typical stride (is prob just less than a yard), there are 1,760 yards in a mile - so if you estimated that you took say 2,000 paces to a mile, 10k steps would be 5 miles.
Sigh, they don't teach basic maths very well these days |

But I might be wrong, I'm just going on what she told me they recommended

Why would the size of your feet affect the size of your step? |

If I'm out working at a decent size art gallery - about 25km.
The rest of the time, about 3km walking in my house. Plus a run. |

If the nurse said 10,000 steps is 2 miles, she/he is totally wrong, that would make a pace around 1 foot, or 30cm - it would be about right for a 2 year old though.
Seriously, whilst many nurses are very knowledgeable about treatment protocols and have a wide vocabulary of abbreviations and acronyms, I've yet to meet one who was any good at basic arithmetic |

Ok - I've just measure the total distance of 10 relaxed paces, not stepping out ones. It comes to 10 yards near as dammit, and I'm a shortarse.
So, that means I'm doing 1,760 paces to the mile.
10,000 divided by 1760 is 5.7 miles |

Well the school runs combined are 3 miles a day then after that it depends on what I'm doing. If I walk to town and back it's 3 miles not counting the steps taken walking around town. If I go for a walk down the canal it's anything from 3-10 miles dependent on the route I've chosen. When I'm at work I literally just walk to the loo and the coffee making facilities and back to my desk, so very little walking there but if weather is nice I walk home (2.4 miles but it's a very BORING walk).
So in short... Anything from 3 to 13 miles a day. |

You are correct, some nurses arithmetic is shocking. I think 10k in adult steps is roughly just over 6 miles.. |

I use 'map my dog walk' and a pedometer app. Today me and my dog walked 4.09 miles which was 9991 steps x |

When I used to work days my Samsung fitness app suggested 10000 steps a day but I used to average 32000. Now I do nights I'm lucky to see 5000. I get most of mine nowadays walking my dog, on a good day I walk him 6 miles if it's sunny 2 if it's raining. |
