Hello.
Any idea how much it is replace a clutch and dual mass fly wheel, for an Audi 2.0ltre TDI 2004, with 106k miles.
Getting quotes that range from £800 from Mr Clutch to £1500 from Audi/VAG specialist.
An independent is asking £1000.
Advice is welcome. |

I'd say £800 is about right. Having just replaced one on my Alfa at a well known indi using original parts I paid about the same. It's just a clutch, not rocket science. |

"It also may not need the DMF doing, they often don't but garages like telling people they do. Sometimes, they invoice you for one and don't even fit it."
Will get DMF changed anyway as they have to strip the engine down to get to it anyway. So might as well get both completed. Plus it comes as part of clutch kit. Save hassle down the line with the crank shaft and vibrations. |

sounds about right for clutch and DMF - I know what you mean about DMF - depends on the value of the car and how long you anticipate keeping it. My ZT has done nearly 200k on the original clutch and DMF, it's the BMW M47R engine. The car only cost £1500, so if the clutch goes, I won't have the DMF replaced unless it really needs it, as I'll probably scrap the car within a couple of years if it lasts that long (though the engine is fab and runs sweet as a nut) |

It's a big job on the Alfa, loads has to come off before you can free the gearbox, including the exhaust and the front subframe needs dropping. Thats why I had a garage do mine, I couldn't face doing it on my drive in December... |

Yes my brother told me all this as it was him that did the job . He works at a Italian car repair garage . Would never entertain doing it on the drive , just to big and an extremely heavy job .
The days of me getting on the floor and humping gearboxes are over . Thank god |

I did the oil cooler on mine a couple of weeks ago, it's just a case of undoing four bolts and replacing like for like. Trouble is the whole front end of the car has to come off to do it because two of the bolts are hidden away! |

You're also lucky you have the 2.4 as it has the M40 gearbox, which is pretty much indestructible. The 1.9 has the Vauxhall M32 box and it's made of chocolate! |
