So about this time last night they was a power cut. Nothing exciting about that. No electrical storms or any weird weather...
So... Why did some car alarms go off?

Sure it wasn't house alarms?
House alarms have a backup battery but they only last 5 years. If they are not replaced when there is a power cut the alarm senses the lose of power because the backup battery failed and the sounder goes on the desperate backup battery in the bell box |

Crook wants to break into your house, but spots the alarm, so, in an attempt to disable it, he cuts the power to it.
So Alarm manufacturers have planned for such an eventuality - which is why they go off during a power cut |

Is it because the streets are darker and someone chances their arm with nicking a car?
