Probably not the best forum to ask on but at least it's a little different from the dick threads.

A missed call at work lead to a very interesting conversation with a department head about how quite a few of his friends randomly got jobs in Abu Dhabi, Thailand, Hong Kong.

My contract ends in September and I have little to no ties or roots so this was of great interest to me.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm not talking teaching in China/Prague or picking cotton in Australia either.

Some excitement and little to no tax on earnings?

Gibraltar. Offshore banking and most gambling and gaming companies are based there. Couple that with generous tax rates and a billion pound bunkering industry makes for a very comfortable lifestyle.

Nearly 0 unemployment.

A lot of people live in Spain and stroll in to work everyday getting the best of both worlds.

The climates damn good and it's 2 and a half hours by Easy jet away. Although they have to stop the traffic to allow planes to land.

Cayman Islands - lots of offshore banking there. I have two close family members who live there and love it. Not far to Hawaii and easy to cycle round, as no hills. They use a multi-story car park for training for hills! Beaches, lovely weather and just a lovely way of life.

Hong Kong - sounds a fantastic place to live. Good ex-pat community, one of my closest friends worked there for ten years and is hoping to go back.

If I had no ties, I would say at least give it a go. What do you have to lose?

Hawaii is nearly five thousand miles away! That's quite far! Other than that the Caymans sound lovely!! Hills are overrated since I got gout!

10hr flight though compare to 17 from here. So in relative terms! Tenuous I know.

Gout is painful - ouch !

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

A lot depends on whether you are paid the equivalent of local salaries or 'ex-pat' salaries, whether accommodation is provided, transport and what local living costs are like etc.

Might be paying little or no tax but if your salary is eaten up with normal living costs then there might be no real financial gain. Have to think about having enough to buy a house, car etc if you plan on going back to Uk at some point.

Some places are great for holidays but living there is a different kettle of fish.

And in some countries you have to rely on the ex-pat social scene and that isnt everyones cup of tea....

Worked all over the world staying in places for up tp two years. The best place to work in my opinion is good old GB. We have British Standards, business transparency (for the most part) and you don't have to be driven to the office with armed guards.

That said the weather is appalling!
