I agree with you Shag, I always used the Met Office dates for the seasons. Then we moved up to Derbyshire, and horticulturally-speaking, we are about 3 weeks behind, so now tend to think in terms of the solstices.
Of course in many other respects, Derbyshire is actually more like 30years behind London...
