As we were having such a pleasant conversation!

My mate has suggested I come and have a ride on a Tifosi Scalare that he has in the shop.

Nice bike, but personally think that the back break being positioned under the chainstays is not a great idea.

I like Tifosi bikes, plus they come with loads of campag builds with is always a bonus!

Giro D'Italia...Can Berty Contador win back the leaders Jersys in todays Time Trial?,its a rather long test at 59 kms which is about 37 miles in English,What of Ritchie Porte?,can the Sky rider use his prowess to win back enough time to claw his way back into the top 6th after a disasterous week for Sky.

I hadn't even noticed the rear brake.

He's also suggested the Trek Emonda S5 but that's a bit out of my price range at £1500 unless he does me a deal!

Watch out for pesky drain and man hole covers they are slippery sometimes.

Drain cover, grids and even white line paint. I once had a proper tank slapper moment I a white line round a bend. Peddling hard instead of coasting round the corner and flicked that back end almost from under my butt.

Good call, takes a few revs for then to bite a bit in my experience. Mind you, there's a fair lump to stop with me on the back

Never really had any issues in the wet, but be aware that you're less visible. Misty wind screens, drops of rain and smears from wipers all make it harder for a car driver to see you. I generally ride under the assumption that everyone else is trying to kill me.

It's a fairly safe assumption to make these days!

Got round safely, it dried up pretty quickly once the rain stopped.

Need to get training again for the grand tour.

Keep eyes peeled as I'll be looking for guest riders to join me and keep me company on certain legs of the trip.

It is funny how things come around after a few years, I saw this set up in a museum. It was on a bike from the 60's, not sure if it is any better than where it is now or not.

Had a look at a Felt AR3 Ultegra this morning. I'm a bit of a Felt Mountain bike whore so thinking I will buy this for my Countryside commute. Stock wheels are not the best though.

Who's been making the most of to bank holiday. I've been out and got 60 miles under my belt. Some great downhill but this meant lots of climbs on the way back.

Been building up a few miles lately but not had an opportunity over the weekend.

Any fellow Fab members in Coventry/Warwickshire on Strava?

Stock wheels are shocking quality on a bike at the price point. After the frame, wheels are the most important component in defining a bike's handling and feel. Yet more and more bikes are speccing these or fulcrum 7's in order to hit a price point. It's a lovely frame though

So what are the Bontrager TLR's they put on the Trek like?

To be fair though, pretty much anything on a bike at that price is going to be better than the stock (apart from the tyres) Carrera Virtuoso I'm currently hauling around!

Might attempt to throw myself up Mytholm Steeps tomorrow in practise for Hardknott & Wrynose passes in The Lakes next weekend.

Will be at Boot Beer Festival and always take the bikes. Usually take the MTB's but I fancy tackling the famous road passes this time, although may not be a good idea with a hangover!

What's Wrynose like? Mrs JFL's boss did it a couple of weeks ago and has offered to take me over there.

Haven't ridden it yet - will report back after next weekend!

Its one of the great road challenges, but I've always taken the MTB before as there are so many classic MTB routes around there.

Bloody hell! Hardknott is hard enough to drive up! (And down! Long story involving no engine braking and eventually boiled brakes!)

Attempted Hardknott but it broke me just before the fort. Managed Wrynose and Ulpha fell ok although weather made the descents bloody hairy!

Just done 65 miles/5300ft ascent around my local area, you can tell you're in the North when yours 50 miles into a ride & you REALLY need a cake shop - but can only find a pie shop!

Rode the final 15 miles with a meat pie in my jersey pocket so at least I know what I'm having for tea!

Pure Northern class,me..

I had gels, but needed proper food. Bought a large meat & potato pie & a small meat pie but I was full after the big pie, so in the jersey it went!

Another 30 miles today on the MTB, managed to go over the bars & test my helmet against a large rock!

I'd have finally hit 50mph for the first time today if the head wind hasn't been virtually lifting the bike!
