Well Peeps.
It's not what your thinking either! Lol
I have a 10 month pup with is a mix of King Charles spaniel, cocker spaniel & I think Welsh collie.
The problem is he barks a lot at night especially when he hears foxes. So when let out at night he goes crazy. Can anyone recommend a good way of stopping the barking?

DAP difuser in the room (a plug in) bought on line is the best as vet is expensive. This may helphim settle.
A radio is a posibility and keep him in a room where he isnt disturbed by outdoor noise. |

Soon as he makes an attempt distract it by quick noise or command ie stop or no be consistemt with whstever command you use so associates with it and then make fuss and maybe reward it will soon associate not barking as good thing dogs are so somple to train its humans that need the training. |

trained by someone else who used an electric collar.... they also couldn't train him in the usual ways, and the person who trained him, trains special forces dogs. so I think they know what they are doing and the best ways to train dogs which are known for being extremely hard to train. |

Sorry but lol.
And I truly mean this is NOT aimed at anyone in particular but if anyone even suggested to me to put a shock collar on either of my dog I'd tell them to shove it up their bollocks. |

That's fair.
But my friend was on the verge of having his dog put down because of its incessant barking. Nothing was working until a vet recommended a shock collar. This worked almost instantly. So that dog is now still alive because of the collar. |

Well I agree in this instance when all other options are exhausted.
But if it was suggested as a first option I wouldn't be having it at all. |

One of them does.
They are both at my parents at the moment as I'm up north but they get Foxes and Saracen goes absolutely mental when they are around. They are both Alsatians.
But at home with me no he doesn't. I don't have Foxes. Very rarely. |

I don't think anyone would use it as a first option. My dog would run off and attack sheep etc on walks... If I was holding the lead pulling him to heal, he would take me with him. Needs must. I didn't know about the collar until I collected him and asked how he had managed to train him. |

It's a tough one this , like if people play loud music at night they get a noise abatement order and have to stop . Quite rightly too .
So what do you think people should do about dogs that bark all night ? |

the dog has learnt to react with the barking to whatever it is be that foxes or something else and the behaviour can be conditioned out of the dog with training etc, scent collars are an option as a deterrent but usually hard work and patience will work before they are needed.. |

I would definitely complain to my Neighbour, and if nothing done, then the council. Just because people choose to have animals, myself included, doesn't mean that everyone else has to live with them too! |

A less extreme version of the electric collar is one that when the dog barks it releases fragmented compressed air . Works really well and is far less cruel . |

We have a citronella collar. It's a bit hit and miss - I think he's come to like the smell.
The Kennel Club has a petition to ban electric shock collars in the UK.

Your dog is just doing what it does naturally. He/she can hear something and is trying to scate it off amd alert you. Make sure he has a walk at night to reduce anxiety and make him/her tired and just let it out for a pee before bed. |

I did see that. But the kennel club are not exactly cruelty free themselves. |

they can be ok with some dogs and not with others, not keen on the idea of an electric collar but as some have said if its the last option or the animal is maybe put to sleep then one would have to consider it.. |

Its good advice if the issue is when outside change pattern ie ho different place with dog and or take out at different time the owner is actually creating the scenario for dog to react. No thing as bad behaving dogs owners need training."
Well I have to let him out for a pee during the night however he barks in the kitchen were he sleeps if he detects a fox around. Is that better put? |

That's what I am starting to wonder.
Trouble is I don't want the dog upstairs because my son has allergies and I think it may trigger them... |

I think that would be kinda cruel cos he's anxious. You need to lower his anxieties. Good walk, music/radio in kitchen, bone/chew. Maybe calming tablets from vet?? |
