I've been sent for interviews by recruitment consultants that are completely different to the role they've described to you. Could be a situation like that. A complete waste of time for all really.

That is a complete waste of time. I advise people to ask more questions. I would also point out to the employer that the consultants they have hired are not presenting the job correctly.

Interviewing people is hugely expensive and tiring at the best of times.

the consultant is working for you just as much as the prospective employer, I make that clear whenever I've spoken to one.

I do admit that It's slightly easier in my case as the consultants I deal with are recruiting for a slightly more specialised field though

It's all good experience, anyway. Also it can be very cathartic.

I once went for a group interview and I didn't like the arrogance of the interviewer and the job didn't look all that great, so I took great pleasure in telling him what I thought of him and his company and where he could stick it.
