" I was brought up on 19th century classic literature, so it will always be 'spelt' for me. The other is the American Standard spelling, and was the lesser used English. (Unless you are talking time periods, in which case 'spelled' is correct) But language is fluid, and I certainly wouldn't kick anyone out of bed for it... Soon we'll all be pronouncing 'schedule' with a hard 'c' like 'school'...  | |||

That said, I do find it easier when people manage to get words in the right order, and use a little bit of grammar to make things easier to read. I'm sure we are all guilty of the odd spelling mistake or two, I know I am, fat finger syndrome is to blame! | |||

He would have difficulty composing a profile on here, that would do him justice, so I don't buy into the theory that a person can be judged by the way they spell or punctuate. I have never been any good at sports activities. I would take great offence if I was considered a "lesser" person because I can't kick a ball straight, to save my life. What credentials are required to be a nice decent person, who just happens to want to venture into swinging ? | |||

I have a friend who has huge technical ability, is extremely hard working, as far as I know has never been unemployed, is clean, dresses well, etc, etc...
He would have difficulty composing a profile on here, that would do him justice, so I don't buy into the theory that a person can be judged by the way they spell or punctuate. I hate to say it but the form of the profile tells a lot about the profilee and helps us winnow down to profiles of couples we are likely to get on with. I do take your point that there are those with degrees of communication difficulties where expressing what they want to convey can be difficult. But I do know from personal experience that when it matters getting something right can be achieved. And, it is not unusual to be able to detect these profiles and make appropriate allowances. There are two major classes of error that get readers dander up; typos and homonym substitutions. Typos are easy to make and hard to spot and frankly can be ignored: however, should you describe yourself as a professional then I do expect the word professional to be correctly spelled; I then expect the most egregiously misused homonyms to be mainly correct: site/sight, there/their/they're etc. a lot of such words carry baggage so when I come upon site I think bulldozers and JCBs not beautiful women. Textspeak just says lazy beggar to me. BUT I know that there are as many where these issues just resonate with other profile readers who see the profile writers as their peeps! In the end the profile is saying 'call us, we are interesting' and if the writer hasn't put that over, nobody will call. | |||

"I've been sent bisses instead of kisses because of predictive text ! I thought maybe they meant buses -well confusing .... Poor spelling /grammar - doesn't worry me. There are sometimes reasons behind it, so I'm pretty chilled about it. " | |||
