I wonder if anyone knows what's up with my car before I take it to a garage. I want to fix it myself. It keeps not starting. Like when your battery is dead. But the battery is fine. It seems to only do it I've noticed, when the car is warm and you have just nipped of for a moment.

Could be a range of things from such a short breif description. Is there any symptoms.
Could be anything from a sticky starter solenoid to faulty fuel feed pump. Could be any of the sensors. What is the car? how do you get is started when it fails ie, do you bump start it or wait for it to cool? |

If it's Vauxhall vw seat soda or Audi they all suffer coolant temp sensor faults and won't start when warm, if it's Renault or Vauxhall they suffer with crankshaft sensor faults! Best bet is a code read! X |

Not enough info on the symptoms. If it turns over lazily, like a failing battery, but whizzes over when cold - I'd check the earth connections both on the battery and the engine earth strap(s). If it won't turn over at all, or turns over fine but won't start, then it could a be a whole host of things. That host of things will be slightly different if it's diesel or petrol. |

Based on the tiny amount if info it's difficult to make an informed diagnosis but it sounds a bit like the crank sensor has packed in.
It's a fairly simple job to do yourself. |

What I always say is be a member of the aa or other such organisation
When it starts playing up call them make sure it's a non busy day
My local garage formula one will do code reading to see if they can fix it for free and will tell you the codes if u decide to not go ahead with their services as will my purple garage
Beware of people with fault code readers who can diagnose for a few sometimes the fee is more than a eBay code reader and gives the same results
Is it a Vauxhall if so press brake anf throttle hard as possible whilst switching on and then count the flashing lights will give u fault code |

How old is the battery? Chances are if it's 5 years or more, it's on its way out. Halfords offer a free battery check (I think). From a general diagnostics order point of view:
Battery
Battery connections
Charging system (Alternator/regulator)
Wiring
Hope this helps. |

Hi, thank you everyone. I got a brand new battery. Its not that. But some of you suggested to check the connections. Well we have jiggled them a bit and so far so good. For one day anyway. See what it's like tomorrow. Fingers crossed. |

could be various things depends on the car, possibly heat soak causing the starter solenoid to play up, or could be one of sensors on its way down somewhere |
