Me too, but that's why I shouldn't decide on the sentencing laws. I just can't agree with the death penalty, it reduces the state to a level it should not go. |

I cant help but think this scumbag will see this sentence as anything other than martyrdom.
I think I'd rather see him do life in a shithole slammer with no possibility of parole. |

You have missed the point completely about apologists. You can stand by your stance on the death penalty all you want and admirably so. The post was in relation to the excuses being made for him. |

Death penalty is the easy way out.
Look at Fred West, Harold Shipman they both took the easy option and that is what the death penalty is.
This guy should be locked up for the rest of his life and throw away the key. |

well put yourself in that situation would you rather wait 10 + years for the fatal jab, spend the rest off your life locked 23 hours in a cell or hang yourself and escape that. ? |

The world's a fucked up place.
Maybe the death sentence is appropriate.
Meanwhile Obama's administration is both arming and training the Syrian "rebels".
I won't start on our "Mid East Peace Envoy". |

But this is not about suicide is it?....
The scumbags on death row have NO contact visits.
Get recreation time walking around "outside" in a 20 ft cage.
Spend 23hrs per day locked up.
Waiting to have your life taken from you.
Suicide is by choice.
Death row isn't.
It's no joke on there. It can't be.
Google a site by Robert pruett.
He's a death row inmate in texas.
He blogs every 2 months or so.
In one of them he talks frankly about his experiences on death row.
It aint pretty.

This guy could live to 90 and should spend the rest of his life in torment locked away in a max security.
Letting him die is letting him off the hook.

I find it strange in some ways though that they keep people on death row for years . Wouldn't the relatives have closure more quickly if the death sentence was actioned relatively swiftly. Some inmates gain a fan club , or do something that makes the news. Rakes it all up again. |

A lot of it is the appeals process that often takes years in itself.
There are about 5 stages of appeals (dependent on how much of a case for appeals exist).
The last stage is the supreme Court.
Failing that. They can then appeal directly to either the state governor or directly to the president for clemency as they are the only 2 avenues that can overrule the supreme Court.
It takes years.

"Although Massachusetts hasn't executed anyone since 1947 and they repealed the death penalty in 1984.
So whether they execute him or not who knows.
"
It's not up to the state.....
Because he was charged in effect with terrorist offences the case was trailed under federal law as opposed to state law.... The case in effect was brought by the U.S. Government
The state has no say in the matter
There will be an automatic right to appeal... If they can find grounds to... Which in this case is going to be hard since he admitted he did it....
It won't be an everlasting long process in this case |

I'm going to answer a lot of the posts in this thread..... because a lot of people seem to be confusing federal law with state law....
the above would have been correct under state law.....but is NOT under federal law
under federal law, 1 automatic appeal (if they find a ground to appeal) and thats it... thats is why very very very few cases are trialed under federal law (only 3 people have been given the death penalty under federal law in about the last 50-60 years) |

"As with all acts of terror from pedos to bombers i say let the familys of the dead or hurt choose a sentance ...."
they actually do in the sentensing phase....in which victim impact statements are taken into consideration... in this case they has a sort of check list they are given
so they fact that he wanted the death penalty to be seen as a martyr is one factor as opposed to being seen as some sort of hero figure being behind bars.... the fact that his placed the bomb behind children is another... that he was influenced by his older brother. .. as so on and so on |

As much as I agree he should get everything he deserves I can't ever agree with capital punishment.
They know that when it comes to it they don't have to live with their guilt, whereas the families will live with it for the rest of their natural life. |

"...maybe throw them to the lions or in with a silver back... "
So basically when in north korea they execute people with mortars or anti aircraft weapons or feed people to dogs, or when IS throw people from buildings or stone them to death - that is how you want justice to be?
Is ending someone's life nit enough for you? Does it have to be suitably brutal and unpleasant too? |
