They were successful for their music rather than being manufactured, after being selected for their looks and being 'styled' to within an inch of their lives, like groups are now. |

I feel like Racey and Osmonds and that were manufactured, still scary though.

Back in the 70's there was a band called the Motors. They released their album with their faces behind a car windscreen and it bombed. The record company then sprayed rain on the windscreen obliterating their faces and re-released it and it then became a smash |
