I have been informed today that I am immoral. One reason given was that I have been to a Swingers Club.
I decided to look up the Oxford Dictionary definition of immoral. They define it as :-Not conforming to accepted standards of morality:
‘unseemly and immoral behaviour’.
Wiki states "while the meaning of sexual immorality has been drastically redefined in recent times, arguably the boundaries of what is acceptable remain publicly policed."
I. perhaps wrongly, don't think of myself as being immoral. Though reading, that I guess, a lot of the general public don't see Swingers Club as normal and everyday. Plus being on a site like this, isn't the norm.
There are many who take the moral high ground without just cause. I'm just interested though, if others think we have no morals, so are in effect, immoral?

Morals are just a group of laws that certain people maintain to remain a part of a group.
People who object to promiscuity would think we have no morals, sexually. People who accept it see nothing wrong in it. So yes you have morals, or not. Depends who is judging you. |

Let them judge us
The fact is people who judge are probably the same people who's top fantasies involve a threesome etc.
We're on here enjoying our life and having a lot of fun along the way.
Let whoever wants to judge mount their high horse and cast their almighty opinions on us.
I'd put money on who's having more fun

Thinking you're better than someone else because you have a certain set of rules or morals makes no sense though, i will add that.
Everything is relative, and subjective. Hardly any morals (or anything in fact) is objective and seen as universal, when it comes to ethics. |

Morality for me is indeed the social norms of a group of people in a particular culture.
If your vicar called you immoral I would not be surprised. If a fellow Fabster called you immoral, I might suspect (s)he has a rather distorted view of morality... |

Depends what sort or morality you find important. I myself are happy to say I'm completely immoral when it comes to running round clubs naked, leaping on unsuspecting gentlemen. But when it comes to murder and other nefarious deeds, I'm pretty moral.
And there is the fact that I don't care what most people think. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Which group of social norms are you identifying with?
Yes, I fall into the immoral category for some: a single female engaging in sex is immoral to those who believe sex should only take place between a married heterosexual couple.

"The trouble with self morality is that it makes everyone moral - including Hitler ... "
Well yeah. But that's the point isn't it, he thought what he was doing was right. You can argue he was wrong, and i agree he was wrong, but you can actually make arguments that would make him right as well. None of them are right or wrong if you base them on logic, but base them on emotions and it's a whole different story. |

"Immoral is doing it in secret behind the others halves back. Swingers (well most) share it all no secrets...... That's the difference in my eyes. "
That proves the point that swingers are no different From none swingers. We have all got our limits and we all judge. |

What you say, pretty much mirrors my view. I guess there are certain sets of morals, that I don't see in the same way as others do. |

Voltaire said "Every man is a creature of the age in which he lives and few are able to raise themselves above the ideas of the time."
So perhaps rather than being immoral, we're just the forward thinking few... |

Immoral? It is just sex isn't it? Why is sex singled out from all human behaviour for special treatment?
Why is it, whilst spouses are encouraged to try and solve a plethora of relationship issues in marriage, when the spectre of breaking the vows of monogamy arise, death and dismemberment is the minimum punishment for the guilty party?
Why do we prize the unnatural state of monogamy and consequently look down on the those that exercise their human right to enjoy sex? Surely if anyone understands this it will be swingers? |

As with a lot of these kinds of things, it says more about the person making the comment than it does the person their saying it to.
As a great man once said...
Old lady judges, watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push FAKE MORALS, insult and stare |

Morality is relative. Our frame of reference determines what we see as moral or immoral. I would guess that our actions would be seen as immoral from the frame of reference of the majority, even if there is a degree of hypocrisy in some of the judgements. Our own frame of reference will determine whether we see our own actions as immoral or not, band our conscience will determine how we feel about that I guess. |

" If you want to define morality, just look at the Victorian's. The were all supposedly prim and proper even putting skirts around piano legs. However in truth there were more child prostitutes than at any other time in history.
As long as you are not hurting anyone and not forcing anyone to do anything against their will you have the moral high ground as far as I'm concerned. |

Indeed... be your own compass! But there will always be multiple perspectives on our actions. All we can do is act according to the direction of our compass and make corrections if we notice we've strayed off course |

just to throw this comment in. I haven't read the whole thread but when I glanced through no one has mentioned the word Amoral or maybe they have so apologies there. This is described in the dictionary as a person that has no morals. I personally do not class myself in that category. Question is are people getting confused between amorality or immorality |

I imagine anyone who could be described as amoral would be sectioned or locked up by now. Amoral and immoral are blurred by the frame of reference of the individual. Someone may consider another to have no morals but that is by judging them against their own or their chosen community's moral code. What they may mean is that their actions are immoral compared to their code. To be amoral would, in my mind, only be possible if the person had no understanding of their own frame of reference and acted purely on impulse. |

Well put. I am under no illusion - casual sex in itself is outside the accepted morality of just about every society, whether or not one visits a club. And yet we will each have our own boundaries of exactly what behaviour is acceptable or not, under what circumstances.
I act according to my conscience and my taste mostly, though I might sail close to the wind sometimes even in my own view. |

"I'm more promiscuous than immoral "
and more lovely than promiscuous?
People judge morality by their own standards, and many of whomthose round trying to justify their own actions. How many paedophile priests are there? Or secret wife beaters?
All in all, we are in a peer group that enjoys and celebrates our physicality and contact with other like minded consenting adults.
In my short time on these forums I have found more open minded acceptance than almost anywhere else, and that sense of community is rare in this day and age.
In the grand scheme of things, does it matter what someone else, who knows little or nothing about this, thinks? No. Same as they should not care how someone else thinks about their life. If you criticised how they brought up their children they would get indignant, but as a member of a swinging site you have no right to defend yourself? Ludicrous. |

When it comes to my private life, I tend to think more about what my conscience allows me to do rather than what someone else's idea of moral permits me to do. I'm the one who has to live with myself, after all. There are many on here who would see what I do as immoral; by the same token there are people on here who do things I would never do because my own set of internal standards wouldn't feel comfortable with me doing that.
I sleep easily with a clear conscience, so I'm either a psychopath or I'm completely moral. |

It depends upon your social circle really, whether you'd be deemed immoral.
In mine, I'm an angel of high moral standing. I don't meet many of the daily fail types and don't care what their opinion is. |
