I can just imagine Andrew Strauss' thoughts today "why did that cunt have to go and score 300+ not out today of all days!"
So will KP be picked in the next test squad or not? |

Strauss has today been appointed as effectively the man in charge of the England team. There is a clamour for Pietersen to be recalled. Strauss is not a fan, and was caught on Sky Sports calling him a "cunt" last year. Welcome to the job! |

He should not come back it is a team game,he is not a team man.
He is also inconsistent and gets out to often for low scores.
England problem is an opening batsman and he is not an opener. |

You can be certain that a lot of bowlers will be very relieved if Strauss vetoes his selection. I have a feeling he might not but will be interesting to see what he says no matter. |

"Possible because one is dead and the other remains one of the best (living) batsmen in the world "
Change that to one of the most destructive batsmen in the world and I would agree, but one of the best?????? Nowhere near at the moment.
Anyway, we need to move on and look forward, use the next few years to bring in a new squad of players and integrate them with an ethos of teamwork and hard work without diminishing the talent they have.
And that means no role for KP |

There are some really promising batters coming through now.
It would be very brave not to select KP with the Ashes coming up, knowing he's out to prove a point and after a shit winter. |

well, one swallow does not spring make.....and one big score does not a return demand.
I would think that if he were in contention, he would have to play against New Zealand AND score big in both matches...and somehow I cannot see that happening |

No he isn't....he WAS one of the worlds best batsmen, and needs to produce a lot more big scores to get back into the team......... |

No, he is one of the best. I believe that the Aussies will be pleased that he won't be playing in the ashes. Without him we don't have a top 5 batsman who can take the game away from the opposition. |

I've found there is a correlation between being very good and being a big cock, although I'm unsure if being a big cock makes you very good.
It's at this point I'd like to interject with I'm the greatest living gas fitter in the Bristol West district..... Allegedly |

WITH him we still don't have a top 5 batsman to take the game away ON A CONSISTENT BASIS.
Tell me, when did he last inspire against a top test team? When did he last put together a consistent run of scores?
I am not against KP, I think he was one of the best destructive batter we have ever played in our team, but his time has passed. We need to look forward, and we need to rebuild. Let KP stick to what he now does best, thrilling the crowds in T20 |

In my humble opinion, whether recalled or not (and it looks more like a not), he's been a great batsman for English cricket and it's been a pleasure to watch him but time marches on........if English cricket is to improve, it needs to move forward, not backwards. The only way new talent gets better is by facing the best and not sitting as twelfth man for a guy who's come in from the cold and may or may not succeed with the bat. |

He has to take a bit of responsibility. He has to look at his own behaviour that led to the relationship with the hierarchy breaking down, it takes 2 to cause an argument. He needs to think whether it was wise to publish a book criticising team mates, selectors, coaches, ECB officials when he still had aspirations to play for the country. He needs to think whether having Piers Morgan championing his case while at the same time being rude and offensive to pretty much anyone who could be involved in his selection is wise.
I am in favour of the best players representing their country on merit, I am sure the KP is still a test quality batsman, but how is Strauss looking at the situation and thinking he is just too much trouble. He has accused the bowlers of being bullies, he calls the captain a weasel, he called Strauss a cunt. Just how do you manage that in a team environment? The person who can is a management genius!

This is the crux of the issue.
Pietersen could well play internationally for another 4 years, even 6 at a stretch.
In most cases a young batter would be desperate for the chance to play alongside somebody with that talent and experience.
But in this case it sounds very much that Pietersen isn't much of a giver and has had a negative impact on those around him.
Of course 2-0 down in the Ashes and some players may view this differently.
I think they won't rule him out. They won't pick him for New Zealand and they'll pray the others get big enough runs to be able to then discount KP against the Aussies - though that was supposed to have happened in the Windies.
Personally I'd throw him in to open the batting and be done with it

"It was Strauss that called KP a cunt - on live TV! "
KP struck first with his texts to the South African team a few years ago, calling him a cunt in Afrikaans! Strauss response was a couple of years later. |

I'm sure Strauss would call him a Doos rather than a C-bomb!
As for KP. Surely he's got to play! Whether he's flogged Leicestershire, who've not won a game for 2 years, to all parts of London or not is irrelevant. Aussies don't want to have to bowl to him |

Strauss definitely dropped the C-bomb! It is a really shoddy state of affairs on all sides. But you cannot look at the current England side and think KP in the line up wouldn't strengthen it in theory. But would his presence have more of a negative impact given everything that has gone on?
Hard to believe that all of this dirty laundry keeps getting aired in public. The ECB is managing to make the FA look positively professional and competent! |

Cook has the problem, maybe Strauss. Everyone except the capt has changed and yet the best batsman we have still cant get in.
I dont really really like KP, I dont hate him but I want The England and Wales Cricket Board to win games, so fucking pick him. |

So much for waiting for Strauss. Sounds like he definitely won't be playing again.
There's some mighty pressure on that batting lineup now. Cook will either finish the summer as a legend or no longer captain. My money is on him doing well. |

A mate of mine knows Ottis Gibson very well, he was bowling coach when KP was briefly captain and the stories I have heard about KP and the damage he did to the team means I think he should have been kicked out years ago - Scoring against a rank county attack is very different from facing the best in the world and I really think he is an overrated self publicist. Our middle order is not the problem in any case, we have plenty of talent there, the problem is openers and KP was never one of those. |

I wonder why/how he has managed to piss off quite so many people. I have heard similar comments from people that have worked with him both at county and international level, and the views on him are incredibly strong, but no one ever seems to say exactly what it is that he does to illicit such strong sentiment. |

Face don't fit - and as is correctly pointed out there's a lot of talent for middle order positions now.
Calling him overrated is absurd though. He may not be quite as awesome as his ego would have him believe but show me a skipper in the world, besides Cook, that wouldn't put him in the team. |

Without doubt in the squad . He is who he is. It's the responsibility of those managing him to keep him in line .
His ego is a cost worthy of his talent |

I seem to remember a time when Beefy Botham was subject to the same sort of crap from the England (MCC) selectors. Like so much sport in this country it is run by posh old men who think that professional sportsmen and women should do what they are told, be silent, and tug their forelocks when addressing the their betters...
After all it is much more important that the codgers keep control of their sports that we produce winning individuals and teams. |

KP...
Fastest to score 1000 runs in international play, fastest to 2000 in international play, test average 47 and over 12000 runs scored for England in tests and one day games...
Yes, real crap, why would we need a player like that? Much better to have loser players in a losing team that don't make waves than a real talent that will not sit silent when the codgers are screwing our international team to massage their overinflated egos! |

Yes, and I remember exactly how loudly he spoke out after the selectors had him removed. He even did huge prolonged PR stunts to get airtime in order to slag off the selectors and call for their removal. Of course I could be imagining it all after all I am getting on now so my memories may be wrong...
And I seem to remember that the removal of Beefy led to a prolonged period where England were by far the worst international cricket team in the world and that just like now the selectors were more interested in punishing Botham than winning. I even think I heard the England selectors make a similar statement as the one they made today about KP about Botham never playing for England again. |

I seem to remember that what happened with Beefy was that at first he was dropped because some martinet did not like him and another player going out for meals with their wives while on tour so banned them from leaving the hotel or using the bar and Botham came close to punching the cunts lights out in the hotel lobby...
And if my memory serves, I seem to remember that it was believed (at the time) that it was a selector that used his influence to have Botham busted for pot. And that that was then used as justification for how Botham was treated.
I personally find the parallels between then and now in a way quite disturbing. But we do it all the time here. It is the problem with a system where patronage takes precedence over ability.
