First invented back in 1850 they have come on a little since then, 1886 saw the first commercial use in restaurants but it was the 1920's that saw thier coming of age.
On a full cycle you can also put fish in the dishwasher, the birds eye or asda sealed packet fish cooks perfectly and you get two jobs done at once which means that within 1 week and 3 days you will have saved the earth, (calculations on earth saving are from Sydney University which has been known to talk crap) |

What would be the point of putting the dishwasher on if you are going to wash up anyway??
We bought a new dishwasher a couple of years ago after a three month gap without one... We thought it was greener without! How wrong we were.. By washing up three times a day and after dinner using at least two bowls of nearly hot water, we found although our electric bill went down, the gas bill increased! And the leccy bill only reduced by roughly £11 per month..
Wont even go into the bacteria left on items washed up by hand. We used to rinse them off after as well, but a discloser showed loads of potential problems..
However, Mrs R says she could do with a tanned, 30 yr old adonis to scrape the excess food off the plates before loading the dishwasher lol |

Especially as chopping boards and pans are two of the things manufacurers recommend you don't put in dishwashers
You can google a list of 10 items not to put in a dishwasher and even add your own suggestions.
Actually the list needed improving so I added a few things that I thought shouldn't be put in a dishwasher
Babies
Pets
Important documents written on rice paper
y'know the kind of things people get absent minded about |

Plastic chopping boards are fine, just not wooden ones... Stainless pans are fine, but not Alluminium! Wired computer keyboards are great in the dishwasher but wireless... Never tried that!
Other things that should be avoided are
Those coffee cups from McDonalds.
The complete works of Shakespear
Your favourite T shirt (the one with the rude slogan!)
The Lawn Mower.

Another thing never to put in a dishwasher is Fairy liquid ... I learned this from bitter experience one time when I ran out of dishwashing tablets. Believe me when I say it's a mistake you only ever make once. I had waves of dense foam oozing out of the dishwasher and when I opened the door, a tsunami gushed forth making my kitchen look like the venue for a foam party. I couldn't believe so much foam could be produced from one squirt of Fairy liquid!! Took me fookin' hours to clear it up!
My latest dishwasher was bargain of the century though ... got it for £3.49 on Ebay. It was just 14 months old but didn't heat the water - a nifty bit of soldering from pom and hey presto - good as new! That was 5 years ago and it's still going strong! |
