I'm nowhere near a southerner, (mrs ddc is practically a cockney though) but there are many things to love about London.
Today's is:
They know to stand to the left on an escalator.
ARRRRRRGGGH Country folk!!!!!
Sorry, as you were.

That its over 200 miles away
That I no longer work there
That I can go there, enjoy what I want to do then come HOME
I do miss lots of things about it, the buzz, the competitiveness, the nightlife, that you can get what you want when you want, and lots of other things, but I don't miss the congestion on the roads, being crammed-in on the Tube, and being so far from the sea (the Thames doesn't count as the proper sea as far as I'm concerned...its a tidal river only) and the mountains.
I'm not tired of London, just enjoy living a better quality of life in a nicer environment, even if the money is now a fraction of what it was...money isn't everything.
I'm happy back home here in Wales these days |

I love it when I'm there to visit, Londoners forget what a wonderful historic city they live in.
But I love even more when I cross the River Tyne on the train and look at the bridges and know that I'm home. |

Was fortunate enough to be born a londoner, ok not in the center but still in a London Borough so technically a londoner.
Also worked in London, not in a fancy office or owt but in many many residential properties and the thing I love and miss is the diversity of not only cultures but the financial diversity.
You can have some of the most expensive properties in the world in one Street and a few streets away is a council estate.
Hidden oasis's of culdesacs with the communal gardens that are little pieces of the country in the middle of the city. The buzz, always something to see and do. Pick a spot pretty much anywhere sit down and people watch it's a living soap.
The anonymity, being able to blend in with the throng and no one takes a blind bit of notice.
Things I don't miss, the North circular and hangar Lane.
Also the Wandsworth one way system
Grrrrrr. |

I love that I'm lucky enough to live there, I've learnt that it's a great city, has it's faults for sure and not sure whether it's 'home' for me but I will make the most of it whilst I'm here. Massive amount of culture, history, diversity, and surprising green spaces. Plus there's good train links |

"Er, we stand on the right.
Oops, so you do.
(Now you know why we always get lost when mrs ddc's navigating) "
It's true, lol! He has to hold up his left hand with his thumb extended to see if it spells the letter 'L'.
I usually get the blame regardless.

"The thing I love about London is the 1740 Virgin train to Manchester!"
I love that London is not Manchester
Well you started it
Btw we moved away in 2001. Wouldn't go back to live but do miss lot's about it.
But all big cities are the same good and bad.
It's easier to knock London as it's just a big mass of smaller cities and towns. With no real sense of identity due to the diversity.
It's one of the greatest cities in the world and as such a small country we should be prouder of the fact that it's recognised world wide.
It has its flaws as does Manchester, Birmingham etc..
The Olympics proved that its still a fantastic place.
Love it or hate it, you can't ignore it. |

OMG - Hush you and stick to the topic. You do realise that you are the one person I actually CAN get sent to the naughty step!
(Although admittedly it would be pyrrhic)

Yep, I love the Big Smoke too! It's nice to visit and try something new, i mean there always seems like there's a new bar, restaurant, gallery, exhibition, gig.... it goes on and on. Those that live there will probably not notice as much as us outsiders that it's always different? Getting around is a breeze and if you can put up with the tube in the summertime everything else is plain sailing.
Anyway having worked there for quite some time i do enjoy and always look forward to going back.
(It's not that my home city sucks, on the contrary, I just like London!) |

"We like the polite and friendly conversations between commuters on the tube "
The Tube is good, but the buses are better (though a little trickier to negotiate) They're slower, but you get to see all the sights. If you look lost and confused, you'll be surprised how many people will come up to you and tell you which bus you need, and where that particular stop is. London is a busy place, but the Blitz spirit is still there if you look. |

Saw a few of the newer red buses in Belfast the other day. They were being delivered from Northern Ireland where they are made. Wright Bus. |

I'm lucky enough to have travelled all over the world but London will always be my favourite place to visit.
Not sure if I'd like to live there though. If I did it would have to be in the South Kensington area. |

I spend a lot of time there and I love the fact you can see the sublime and ridiculous within seconds of each other.
The buzz and pace of life is great too, and the fact that pubs fill up straight from work, not like a lot of places where people go home first. Love it! |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I love that London is a collection of little villages all seamlessly joined together (seamless to the ignorant eye).
I love that I can experience so much and there is always something to do, lots for free if you just look.
I love the architecture - you can find every style in London somewhere.
We have the most fantastic parks and open spaces (I can get to three parks, a river and marshes all in a ten minute walk).
I love that you can strike up a conversation about anything with strangers from everywhere.
Finally, I love our chippy. |
