They are ex-friends for various reasons.
So why would peeps want to look them up on social networking sites, and try to re-kindle the friendship that died many years agao?
For curiosity sake perhaps?
What would they talk about??? What would they have in common except for sharing something many years ago???
I have been contacted by an ex-friend recently, and her message was as needy as she was when we parted company over 20y ago.
I am inclined to ignore the message, or I would end up saying something I may regret later! |

I lost a lot of friends because we moved when I was in my final year of high school.
It was great to be able to catch up on everyone again and I do intend to stay in touch this time.

I have always struggled to maintain long term friendships. So social networking sites should provide a platform to re-kindle odd short friendships at a safe distance. Helps if you were awkward at a certain point in your life or may provide a distant opportunity to appologise for saying/doing the wrong thing.
That said I have a few good friends I only speak to on occaision and only found recently on Fb. |

I opened a facebook account and was contacted by both my daughters who I hadn't heard from for 6 years, it turned out that my wife and told them I didn't want any contact with them and they had respected my wishes, she had also thrown away the Xmas presents I had sent to them at her home.
We now meet up whenever we can and have rekindled the love we have, I thought about them everyday when I didn't hear from them and am greatfull that I got the chance to give my side of the story. |

I have no inclination to re-kindle any friendship that has run its course or from a previous chapter in the book of my life.
I can appreciate why some peeps cling to the past, however, it is not for me. |

Personally I think that is a shame, you have your reasons and your choice but for many there are reasons why they lose contact with people they would like to contact again.
I spent 13 years in the army, I made many friends but of course, new postings, people leaving and returning from whence they came etc, I did lose track of many friends and once in a while I get the chance to see how they are getting along.
Some friendships are not lost for negative reasons, life has a way of bringing us situations beyond our control. |

Very true jed.
I lost touch with various people because of circumstances.
Moving home, people leaving the country . people dying.
Its so nice to catch up and see how people have fared in life. |

"nostalgia" can get you into trouble , i was contacted by an old school friend a while ago, swapped email, i found her just as irritating as i did when we were at school.
Jed, glad you have had a chance to get to know your daughters xxx |

My mates use it to let everyone know what they're up to 24/7 and its boooooring
But I have caught up with some people that I probably would'nt have without it,plus im accessible to family that live all over the country which is quite nice so I think ill leave it for a little longer |

I've had a lot of fun through the site that "re-unites" friends....mostly with classmates from my schooldays (we've had a few reunion parties which have been a real hoot) and also with folks I knew when I was in the WRAF....in fact it was an old buddy from my RAF days who first got me into swinging. Only really use FB for contact with family and to play on my farm (pussy has a lot to answer for, getting me addicted to that!!!!) |
