In March I stayed out in Brooklyn. Bit more of an authentic New York City experience. |

Manhattan is very safe and I got dropped there for a few hours, by a woman I knew who was driving through, before I headed to a flight from Pennsylvania. Really easy to plan and navigate and so much to do. It's a great place to be alone. |

Yep, easily done. I've done it many times in the past and tend to aim for Tribeca / Soho areas of town. It's been a while since I've been, maybe 8 years so it'll be different now but it changes all the time anyway! |

Yes we went to the project area of the bronx, our friends who now live in upstate New York used to live there so they knew most of the people in that neighbourhood.
Yes it was run down but the people were ok. |

Feels very safe at night, especially in Greenwich Village, etc... Travelling alone there should be fine. The journey to America and then New York should be savoured...Write stuff down, loads of thoughts and diary stuff, and relax the whole way through.
I am planning a trip through Europe on trains later in the summer...alone as well, and looking forward to it. May meet some friends along the way, but the whole trip is something I have wanted to do for ages.
Have a great time. |

"Anyone been down the Bronx "
use to walk in parts of the bronx's.. it gets a bad rep and 95% of it is actually fine.....
I then to fly into JFK just because its easier getting to my part of queens from there... but going in/out of newark and coming in is absolutely fine.....
I love hanging out around NYC and in Greenwich Village and just chilling out and reading a paper.... |

Great post Fabio.. I Kinda grew up near the Famous "Gorbals" of Glasgow..
twenty or thirty years ago I used to Watch Videos of the Wanderers And the likes.. and always thought that they were years ahead of us..in a way..
Now the Gorbals is all posh
Just wondered what the Bronx was like nowadays but Sadly I will probably never get the chance to visit - but I can dream.. |

Yes, you pay a bit more for one with it's own compact bathroom. They have rainforest showers - wonderful!
To be fair though, I'd quite happily go back and stay in a room with a shared bathroom if I was on my own. They were HUGE and the showers had side jets and were ultra-luxurious. |

I travelled across the States on my own for 3 months including New York. I know it's not exactly luxury but have you thought about staying in a youth hostel? They take any ages but you have to be a member. I met some great people and got to see the sights and bars with people from all over the world. |

Yes I've been twice on my own. I just decided to do and considering I had never even checked into a hotel here on my own, it was a major feat for me. It was really easy though. I didn't attempt the underground, I just cabbed and walked around Manhattan.
I did have friends who met me for dinner one evening and they had already given me valuable information on the city |

No problems just poll up and start looking around. The Castle Pub near 5th avenue is a good starter if you like an American/Irish place |
