Just for fun, there's many a comment on discourteous, non law abiding and quite frankly dangerous drivers whether old and doddery or just simply selfish. Ever notice how it's always the others?

Here's your chance to rate yourself on a scale of 1 - 100. 1 being not fit to even be a pedestrian and 100 being perfect.

Off you go.

I wouldn't go as far as to rate myself 100%, but having taken and passed my IAM Advanced Driving test in October 1996, my attitude towards driving is much different to what it was when I was first learning to drive.

Your mindset is different.

I still remember the comments that got thrown around at the time about learning to drive once you've passed your test.

Of course, I now consider such an attitude to be absolutely ridiculous.

I constantly think about my driving, and how I approach every part of my journey. How I approach bends and junctions. Anticipating the movements and actions of others - as quite often their intent can be clear from their position in the road, speed etc.

I am finding lately that I have noticed just how poor many motorists are at driving on dual carriageways and motorways. Maybe this is a failing of the 'L' test system as Motorways / Dual Carriageways are STILL not included in the test.

The rules regarding joining a motorway /DC are very clearly stated in the Highway code, in that you should match your speed to that of the main carriageway - and of course, give way to the main carriageway.

I've lost count of the times that vehicles joining from a slip road do so in a manner that suggests that the motorist believes that he/she has priority / right of way.

I very nearly had someone drive into me once, as I was in lane 1 and the driver of a mondeo, joining from a sliproad actually sounded their horn because I had not pulled into lane 2 to allow him/her onto the carriageway. Well, as Lane 2 (and lane 3 where applicable) is there for overtaking ONLY, added to the fact that there was a vehicle to my right anyway.....but there you go.

Whats a good driver?

I've been driving since I was 18 years old. I've had a few crashes.

I'm not an A1 driver by any means.

I consider myself a good driver but then I would say that as I'm the only one in the car.

To other people I could quite honestly be a really shit driver.

What I will say is I've not had a crash for nearly 10 years and I have zero points on my licence.

. 50 . I have completed an advanced driving test and in addition hold licences to drive both buses and articulated lorries ( I do not drive for a living ). The only way to assess your driving skills is to do an advanced driving . I would like to think that my driving style is courteous and non confrontational. The key thing for me is to always without exception to adhere to the two second rule . This allows time to take corrective action should things go wrong . I like to adhere strictly to all speed limits . I believe this is good discipline .

My Favorite drivers are those really really safe ones. You know the type, they do 40 everywhere....60 limit? 40....50 limit? 40....30 limit? Still 40! Oh and they have those dangerous motorways sussed to...sit in the middle lane at 69. Nice and safe!

I'd say my driving around 85%.

Ok I ain't perfect. I sit around 30-35mph on a 30 road (c'mon most of us do).

On motorway I sit between 55-60mph (good fuel consumption speed), plenty of other people pass me at this speed.

Don't like the following:

Individuals who just cut-in as if "yes, I have a swanky/posh car, I do whatever I want".

Anyone who takes up TWO spaces in a car park, what are you the VIP.

Drivers who don't indicate EVER.

The eejits who weaves (normally on dual carriageway or m'way) from one lane to the other, passing everyone (what's the big damn rush).

They land rover overfinch "yea, I own a TANK, now get out my way" I think they think road is just for them, also there land rover ain't seen a speck of dirt or "off-road" since they day they got it.

Eejits who decide when joining the m'way they go from the on-ramp then decide to make ONE swift and very dangerous move to the fast lane.

Eejits who do the opposite of the above, when coming off m'way decide to go from fast lane to off-ramp in one go, and cut you up in the process.

This with the land rover! I done a 170 mile trip today on my motorbike ( bloody windy!!) And in a 60 I was doing 55 behind other cars an lorries on single lane an he was sat up my backside for a good 10 miles.

White bmw's I have found to behave the same, not saying all, just the ones I've met.

Not saying I'm perfect, but how hard is it to give someone space? If I needed to slow down at all he'd have run me over before he'd known about it.

Bikes are just as bad especially in London! I drive a 44ton Arctic and the amount of people that cut in front of you leaving 0 braking distance. Me and my 44ton can't stop on a knifes edge like a car. And just some food for thought. If a medium sized car is hit by an artic at 30mph there is about a 5% chance of survival the other 95% are dead before their car or what's left of it stops moving

Don't wanna toot my own horn but I'd go with 100%

Drive with speed limit, 50 to 60 on motorway for fuel economy. Always look after my car n check over regularly, leave plenty of space between cars. Considerate to bike and horse riders (Bro n dad have a bike, missus has a horse)

I've seen some terrible things on the roads. It's why I'm pretty safe on the roads..

I also think drivers who:

Sit close/near your back bumper trying to bully you - trying to force you to speed up, I don't, if some speed merchant ends up doing this to me I WILL sit at 30mph in a 30zone, just to show them they ain't going to bully/harass me.

Why are SO many drivers in such a god-damn rush. Lost count at number of people that passed me on motorway and I was doing 55-60mph.

I know two people who have passed their advanced driving test, both are really terrible drivers on a day to day basis, both have been involved in numerous RTAs. Having been in vehicles with them, I think they have the 'I'm right because I have a piece of paper telling me so' attitude and will not make allowances for other people's mistakes.

I have in the past been a military driving instructor (the old HGV3 licence)and have always considered myself to be a good driver, but certainly not perfect.

Its surprising how many people have stiff necks that stop them looking over their shoulder to see their blind spot (as they were taught). They might think differently once they have actually been in a RTA and actually end up in a neck brace.

If you're doing 55-60 on a motorway, assuming it's safe to do 70 and your vehicle isn't limited, you're a hazard.

I'd say that you've been lucky so far that the old bill haven't pulled you over and given you a rollicking.

And why shouldn't they pass you on a

motorway? You do know the limit is 70 right?

Yes, I do know the speed limit is 70 on motorway, I was just saying "why the rush", I mean I normally try to stick to about 55-60mph purly for FUEL CONSUMPTION.

"

At 55-60 on a motorway you're a HAZARD.

If you're doing 55-60 on a motorway, assuming it's safe to do 70 and your vehicle isn't limited, you're a hazard.

I'd say that you've been lucky so far that the old bill haven't pulled you over and given you a rollicking."

. I did not think that there was any necessity to drive at seventy on a motorway if you did not feel inclined to do that speed . Surely if you are doing over 50 and driving safely and in the correct lane , would your driving be of any interest to the police ?. I would usually do seventy provided the conditions were safe to do so .

Off you go. .

. To which advanced driving tests are you referring and how long was it since they completed the advanced driving test ? I would think that most drivers who have completed an advanced driving test within the last three years will have brushed up on their skills and be able to predict other drivers reactions best than most . Most people who have completed an advanced driving test are less likely to be involved in a RTA.

In northern Ireland once a person passes the driving test, that person is restricted for 12 months to driving at a maximum of 45 mph.restricted drivers can drive on a motorway.why would driving authorities restrict new drivers to 45 mph on a motorway if it was considered hazardous?

Wakefield

Up until the 1990s there used to be a sign at the start of all mainland motorways listing vehicles the could not use the motorway and one of the exemptions was a vehicle not capable of travelling at 15 mph.

In current road conditions any vehicle travelling at less than 50 mph on a motorway could, repeat could be pulled over and the driver charged with driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other road users

NEVER been pulled over by the police for doing 55-60mph on motorway, and I've been driving for 16 years now.

So I don't know where you get this idea that I'M a hazard or the police give me a rollicking. Really at the end of the day you should drive within YOUR OWN comforts/speed.

. My thoughts as well. I am certain that the police have better things to do than pull over a driver for only doing 55./

. I would have thought that that is highly unlikely in practice . It would be interesting to note if anyone has ever been convicted of such an offence as all the other driver has to do is overtake .

I'm ok, say 70, sometimes speed, parking can be dodgy and if very stressed have been known to scratch the car (not that anyone ever mentions this, lol!).

Ask Mr DDC (can we rate passenger drivers? not sure if he'd rate as very good or very bad, or just plain annoying, lol!) Luckily he usually drives so I can fall asleep or flash.

70?!!

(Just to clarify, whenever she sits in the driving seat the on-board computer goes and the SatNav says "please move over to the passenger seat"...)

Oh, I assume you CAN drive on motorway at less than 50mph, as of course if you tried at around 0800 on the M8, due to rush hour traffic you'd know what I mean.

Also weather conditions play a big part in speed etc.

I recall around mid JAN 2015 when I was at go-slow (10-15mph, but moving) speed due to SNOW.

Also:

HEAVY rain.

Fog

Low sun.

But no, you'll still get someone who's in a rush/late etc wanting to go nose to tail (at like at least 60mph) in foggy conditions, goodness, have you got a death wish.
