Has anyone traced their family tree? If so have you found out anything particularly interesting?

P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

Yep, one of my ancestors was a Sycamore, but when I twigged that another was a Larch, it got too confusing so I thought I'd better leaf it alone

Not really, the side I wanted to learn about are from Ireland and Irish registers are shockingly piss poor, so couldn't find anything past my Grandad (who I already knew everything I needed).

I tried several years ago. My mother's side was fairly easy I managed to trace back several generations in Galway. My father's side was impossible. I got as far as my grandparents and I already knew their birth dates (grandfather born in 1896, grandmother 1899). The part of Poland they came from (Wolyn) was destroyed during WWII and that whole area is now part of the Ukraine, any records that existed were destroyed long ago.

Until recently it was though that my grandmother and all my aunt's and uncles died in a Russian labour camp in 1940 by the Polish government.

Based on the family I know of .... They are all various shades of nutters.... Surely only thing that has happened over time is dilution.....so going back I wouldn't be surprised if I was related to atilla the hun or Joan of arc..... Both totally round the pipe.

My mum did this years ago and we're all local.

The comedian Dan Nightingale has a good routine based on his.

Had a look back and found that I had very wealthy Dutch Jewish ancestry dating back to the 17th century, fascinating as one half of the family was Church of England and the other half Catholic. No idea where the money or the Judaism went. Have often wanted to look into it in more detail as I love history.

I traced some of my dad's side back to the 1700s including one who was an uncle (great great I think) and it was weird because the day I researched him turned out to be 100 years to the day that he died.

Haven't got anywhere with my mum's side yet

I'm related to Alfred Hitchcock. I've always thought that's a pretty cool connection.
