Do you begrudge everyone having kids?

Or just royalty?

I doubt they'll qualify for child benefit you know.

Since they announced the name today is have hoped they'd have gone for Leia.

tyhe real question is:-

is she any better than a baby on 'real' benefits?

I still dont know how anyone can justify ANY royal family...

harp on about finance etc...fair play..

but in the REAL world...I dont see how we can actually condone a birth right that essentially says we are better than you and always will be...

I don't think they're any better than anyone else.

The difference being - like it or not the royal family generate a huge amount of money for the UK via tourism etc (far in excess of any 'cost to the taxpayer') and therefore actually produce a net income for the taxpayer, as opposed to any other 'child on benefits' as others on this thread love to point out.

When the same is true of every other family on benefits Then those arguments will be valid.

Personally I couldn't give a toss about the royal family. But labelling them as 'unemployed benefit scroungers' is hilarious!

That's one of the funniest things I've read for a long time.

The estimated annual cost of the monarchy is £299.4m, around nine times the official figure published by the royal household

The official figure excludes a number of costs, including security, royal visits and lost revenue from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall

£299.4m is equivalent to the cost of 14,000 nurses, 13,000 police officers and 14,000 teachers

Britain's royal family is the most expensive in Europe.

The whole concept of a 'magical bloodline' would be hilarious if it wasn't costing us so much.

In the meantime watch 'Unlawful Killing' on Youtube (banned in the UK) to see what they are probably capable of.

They need putting on a more cost effect budget. I sick of the tired old argument that they being in revenue from tourism. I doubt it would diminish if there weren't any royals left. What are they good for beside photo shots, breading and charity evens. I'm sure celebrity could be found that can do the same but doesnt piss out our money.

Viva revolution.

I'm going to put similar to what I put in another royal baby thread.

I wish the Royal family and new Royal baby all the best. But lets take a moment to think of children also born on the same day, sadly into poverty and hardship with little or no fanfare. Some right here in Britain. Every new life is precious and deserves the best start in life and some children will never get that due to issues beyond the control and understanding.

Is this child truly more special than any sharing her birthday?

I'm still confused, I'm sure I remember reading a week ago that she'd had a baby girl and called her Charlotte.

And then a couple of days ago saw that she'd only just gone into early labour and after a double check, I couldn't find the story I'd read ANYWHERE.

Should've put a fucking bet on.

I get that. Nice news story.

But again, she's 4th in line to an institution of privilege, nothing more. It's not a big deal as it's wasn't earned or won, it's just the way it is, which doesn't make it special. As far as a financial boost to the country, it might be money we never see, depending on the outcome of the next election and new government.

To think that her wellbeing is paramount over all children because she born a royal (the birth equivalent of winning the Euromillions) is not enough for me.

This is not an attack on the royals. Just trying to keep things in perspective.

"And whether you like the royals or not they play a very big part in our country . "

Not really.

Bus Drivers play a big part in this country. Doctors, including the one that delivered the royal baby, play a big part in this country. Police Officers play a big part in this country. Local shop assistants play a big part in this country. And why?

Because you've had more direct contact with those above than you've had with the Royal family thus having more influence on your day to day life.

Even though I mentioned earlier about not using Elizabeth as part of her names, I am very happy she is here safely and she shares her birthday with my daughter, who is very special to me and my own personal Princess.

...Ermmm. ..because she's a princess !!!

I'm with you on this... Its lovely and it always amazes me the people that think the royal family cost us money. She is a princess and the first one that can't be moved down the line of succession...

Oh and before anyone goes on about supporting her... Her daddy is a rescue pilot.. putting his life out there for people x "

If the only thing that entices foreigners to come over here and spend their money, is a family where the members are born into wealth and prestige just 'because', then what a sorry little nation we must be.

Of course it's not the 'only' thing. But it's a rich part of our heritage as a nation and I for one am glad that we have the Queen we do.

But if you think presidential and similar systems aren't all about wealth and prestige too (just look at our main politicians) then you're sorely mistaken.

The difference of course being that those positions are to some extent earned (though of course to enter into the upper echelons of American society chances are that you probably have to be born into some degree of wealth anyway), the royal family are simply the royal family because they're the royal family.

There's something to be said for someone being born into it though, they've been trained for life to take on that role. The peripheral royals are a bit bullshit, obviously, but I think we're a better country for having the Queen than we would be without.

I disagree, I doubt it would make the slightest bit of difference.
