The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales |
I'll give it a watch but I just don't think it will be as funny or have the same appeal. Jezza and Co really had it nailed and love 'em or hate 'em, they're a hard act to follow. |

They were past their sell by date.
I wouldn't mind betting that the 'punch' incident was a ruse to suit all parties.
Tons of publicity. |

I've thought of that myself GC... An easy way for Jezza and Co to go to Sky and also easy for the BBC to reap even more millions from the _iewer by carrying the show on but as the motto says, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! |

"I like Philip Glenister, I wonder what accent he'll use; the 'posh' one he uses for inter_iews or the Mancunian one from Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes? "
Was watching him last night in For the Love of Cars and he certainly didn't sound posh |

"Do you think it will return to being a proper car program ?
"
I hope not, there isn't a huge amount of excitement just test driving the latest Ford Focus. |

Probably, and it will die just like it did before...
I think that there is a good chance that Clarkson will then buy the title rights back from the BeeB at a knockdown price, resurrect it for a third time and then offer it to the highest bidder. |

"So we got a...
Actor, fashion model and a motor cycle racer...
"
They all seem to be linked to motoring programs so the knowledge will be there...
But...is that what folk are interested in..? |

I didn't know they connected to motoring programs as I find those type of programs boring , top gear hasn't been a motoring program for a long time , light entertainment at best , but it is one of the best light entertainment programs .

"It's going to be a bit of a poison chalice being constantly compared to the old format.
That's my thoughts. "
Absolutely correct! And rightly so.
Remember regardless of anyones personal opinion about Clarkson, Captain Slow and The Hamster their broadcasts were by far the most popular BBC2 program and netted the BeeB over £50 million a year in foreign program broadcast rights. Plus whatever monies the commercial arm of the BeeB made from their marketing of the brand (which has not been divulged and the accounts of which are not available for scrutiny because the commercial arm of the BeeB is an offshore enterprise.) |

It was broke... it was offensive and broke multiple BBC guidelines...
Looking forward to the new setup. It might actually now be about cars. |

The fact that Andy Wilman resigned is an indication what the steps will be, the programme with eh Exec Producer at the helm will resurrected somewhere else, probably not under the Top Gear brand.
Regardless of what people think individually about the show, it drew the _iewers in, mainly because of the light heartedness of the show. Yes, they offended many people but did sufficient numbers switch off to affect its success?
Anything under the ToGear brand will be like David Moyes following Alex a Ferguson in the Utd job, too many comparisons, too many judgements early on. And if Clarkson et al appear elsewhere, the masses will move swiftly on.

There are various programs about cars most channels have tried them , most are now on satellite channels because even as a car fan they are bloody boring , top gear was about 3 silly men doing silly things with cars , vans , buses etc . If you want a car program watch 5th gear , that's a proper car program . |

I think that the population in general is slowly becoming more aware of things like sexism, racism, etc, and how it's actually not that cool to be on TV anymore. If you *started* Top Gear with the JC and the crew now I don't think it would be as widely accepted. People watched them because they'd watched them for years and it was a bit like your racist Granddad - who you just sort of laughed at and pretended he wasn't actually racist. Or he was 'of his time'.
JC's Top Gear was the same. 'Of it's time'. And now it's not it's time. |

Even Top Gear realised they'd lost the plot a bit. This years srries had reverted back to the slightly older format with more cars and less buggering about with completely absurd challenges.
Nothing will ever beat the Robin Reliant Shuttle though. |

They should have gone down the mock the week road and only do racism , sexism etc in an ironic way . all you have to do is say ' Nigel Farage would say it this way ' , and we can all laugh guilt free .

I think it'll be a refreshing change.
Clarkson's gone. People need to get over the fact. I like the guy but the constant "POWER!! etc got old years ago.
And he'd be an awful PM too. |

"Philip Glenister, Jodie Kidd and Guy Martin.
Interesting"
Glenister is good on For the love of cars.
Martin is great fun.
Kidd would be the weakest link. She is great being inter_iewed, but a poor presenter.
I'd love Brian Johnston in it. |

To be fair James May and Clarkson are pretty shit in any other context so it's not like being a genius presenter is a requirement.
I hope they do well, if nothing else to piss off the muppets that would defend Clarkson no matter how arseholeish his behaviour. |

Clarkson is a horrid man I can think of three crimes of the top of my head ;
He said a now racist kids nursery rhyme ( which was never aired )
He used the word ' slope ' which is an insult in some parts of america and Australia
And he gave someone a fat lip .
Cant get much worse that we should hang him . |

I've always considered Clarksons TV persona to be made up to cause just the right amount of hassle to keep him relevant. The show as it was at the end had a few troubles but had got its act back together for the 1st time in about 4 seasons.
For the beeb to relaunch it with new people means it probably needs a new direction. You only have to look at the foreign versions to see it doesn't work without JC, RH, and JM. |

An actor who is a petrol head.
A model who is a semi pro racer.
A motor cycle racer who is a speed freak. |

Yes, I think that violence in the workplace and racism are excellent ideals to promote on the BBC.
Not to mention his sexist comments either - they really help in todays world when women are trying to be taken seriously - especially in the motorsports industry. |
