As a kid I went everywhere barefoot, never a thought as to what I might be walking across, apart from dog poo
Now if there's anything more than small gravel I'm hopping around as if I'm doing a rain dance |

I was trying to figure thos out when I found I wouldn't walk on grass without shoes...
Yet remember loving the feeling of running around barefoot with the grass between your toes and the warmth of it under your feet on a warm day.
Now I seem to be convinced that there are scorpions or dying wasps or bitey spiders everywhere...

I lived abroad as a child & went everywhere in either barefeet or flipflops but that was because there was the danger of snakes & scorpions!! My feet were so tough.
Even now, I feel more comfortable not wearing shoes. |

I think we get to an age of awareness quite early in life. As a small child, about 6 I used to roll down a small hill at our holiday park where we had a chalet. I think I was about 9 when I stood on the top of the hill and thought I'm not rolling down there,I might roll in poo or dropped food. Same with walking around the camp barefoot. |
