Is there anything more irratating then you're doing something the phone rings with an unknown caller and some automated voice says
"We've been trying to contact you over you PPI claim, press 5". No I haven't ever pressed or answer an email stating I've won the Arizona lottery, because I think I would have remembered.
The only thing you'll get is an enormous phone bill, the government and the phone companies should make it quite clear the whether you press 5 or not there will be no money paid or collected.

Register for the telephone preference service,it covers mobile phones as well. I am covered and simply advise them they are breaking the law. My number is soon removed from their lists.
Don't answer unknown witheld numbers, if it's important they will leave a message and you can call them back.
Nothing to stress about really. |

I'm currently getting 4-5 calls a day from my Internet and phone provider to make sure I'm happy with the service. I have told them to stop calling but they won't so I'm cancelling when my contract runs out in a few weeks. |

"I have caller ID. If it says unknown, Int'l, or private, it won't get answered."
That's all well n good, but as the op says, you're doing something else, the phone rings you obviously don't know who it is till you are able to.look at the caller id,you stop what you are doing to go look at yr phone only to find its one of them bastard bloody ppi companies. |

I say that I was just doing something when they called and do they mind if I continue while we talk.
The answer is always yes, so I switch the vac on and put the phone next to it.
Funnily they all hang up on me and rarely call back again. |

If it's unknown then I either ignore, letting it go to voicemail or answer and don't speak. I've reported some to the data or information commissioner and law recently changed to make it easier for prosecution and heavier fines.
Totally annoying. You may be able to get free caller id, as part of a package from BT and this helps. TPS reduces the volume a lot. |

I have a lot of hospital appointments and calls from the hospital are all on withheld numbers so I have to answer them. |

i get ppi voicemail messages on my mobile, but just delete them. as for the house phone, we have tps as well, and it doesn't work. you have tell tps a name and number on paper and send it back, but if the call is from America, then it isn't blocked. waste of time really. |

Ditto. And sign up for the mail preference service. That cuts down the junk mail. |
